Queue question

Post by peteamer » Fri Apr 30, 2004 8:32 am

OK... Here's what happened.

Lappie was folding away quite happily @ 90%~ through a WU.
Lappie unplugged from network and therefore Internet connection so GF could use it.
3Hrs later suddenly remembered it and reconnected it.
EM111, F@H logstats and F@H queue info all said 22% through new WU and 1 in queue

Now I know I want and am about to implement a wireless network... but I know it's not that...I haven't got the bits yet :?

And the Voodoo book was still in the cupboard, so it wasn't that !!!

I'm not worried about it but I am real curious.

Any ideas???

Whilst I'm asking questions... anyone had glitches with EM111, as in 'sticking' at 22% through WU, though the frame % was cycling through as you'd expect. ?

Hang on... I haven't seen my book for a while... wonder if Stevo's 'borrowed' it

Any ideas, no matter how 'off the wall' appreciated.

What does your logfile say?

As I recall.. (GF using lappie... I'm not that brave  ) usual as in: WU finished, attempting to upload, unable to upload, starting new WU etc.

Just had a quick check, logfile no longer holds that info. Damn, knew I should have made a note

Queue says all empty except 1 'ready'.
Not much help am I?

And to think I get annoyed with customers and offspring who want answers but can't give me the info I need to help them

If the queue says all empty and one ready to upload -- wouldn't that mean it finished the one that had been at 90% and is now waiting to get a new one (and get rid of the old one)?

Or, does it already have a new one and you're not sure where it came from (since it wasn't connected at the time)?

Pete,

Look in fahlog-prev.txt, in your folding directory. The "current" text file spills over to the -prev.tx file when it fills up, so to speak.

It should show if you finished the old wu and what happened to it. I'm kinda curious how it started on a new wu if the computer was disconnected from the 'net. :?

Check FAHlog-Prev.txt as well. The log files are rotated when the current log is >64k and folding restarts.

Also - I recommend you stop all folding (on that machine) before going into the forensic analysis. Once you have learned all you can with folding stopped, then restart and check the log(s) again after a few minutes. I have had moments with the console version under Win that was showing no progress on screen, but was in fact running OK. (I suspect it felt the logfile was locked and so just stopped making a noise. Eventually when I restarted it, it 'magically' progressed 20 frames or steps.)

Mate there are no magiks in this world. You either did not download a WU and had a bad dream or you inadvertedly connected to someone else's WLAN and downloaded a WU thru that or you or your GF connected the lappie to the wire and gots the WU that way. Either one of them but no magiks, this ain't no Harry Potter here.

Exactly.

Had finished the one it was on, it then sat there queued to upload.

Meanwhile F@H had started on another one !!!!

Whilst still disconnected from the Internet. :?

It may have been the same WU ident but I can't be sure. Sorry, I expected the info to still be available when I started this thread

mmmm, trying to think hard now.

1. I know for a fact that EM111 (on my main rig) showed that blue circle with a '1' in it, showing 1 in the queue and that it 'showed' it was working on a WU.

This surprised me and I 'hovered' the mouse pointer over the F@H icon on the lappie which showed **/*** as it would when working normaly.

Firing up LogStats confirmed the above.

Today however using the info you guys have so kindly donated i.e. FAHlog-Prev, nothing shows up to collaborate what I have said. :?

I think I've started a wild goose chase... Sorry

ColdFrame, couldn't agree more.

Have to have food now.

Will post again if I find anything that can be worked on, otherwise I suggest we take this as proof I was never destined to 'try' sober
(No alcohol for 4 days... maybe this is the DT's  , rectifying that as we speak though so normal service should be resumed soon)

I think I wish I could delete my first post now :?

Thanks for the suggestions, will post back if I can find any evidence of my delusions.

Pete

haysdb can we delete this thread, yes we all know I'm ... whatever, however I'd much rather there was no 'proof'

Not to worry, Pete, we've all been there. My suggestion is to do the following:

1. Plug "lappie" into network.

2. Turn computer on.

3. Start folding.

4. Relax.

If there is a wu in the queue, it will transmit itself, soon. If not, well, either way, nothing needs to be done. :)

Pete, I think you now know what happened, you're just not telling us...

Something really stupid that you don't want to admit to...

I think you should tell us, so we can all have a good laugh at your expense.

Oh!!... Hang on it's me this time  (I'll say 'again' here, before anyone else does..... David  ).

Upon reflection I think it's about high time it stopped  .
