Client attempting to get work packets...

Post by Memony » Sat Sep 04, 2004 12:04 pm

my client is attempting to get a work packet...

Not a problem itself, but it's been doing it for nearly four hours... is this normal? I feel like I am losing folding time

My F@H is worse than yours. It has crashed on the last 2 work units when it finished. Thus my rank has fallen. In addition it fails to show itself via tray icon when I start up my computer. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Memony, it's probably Stanford's servers down or really busy. :?

acaurora, is it running even though it doesn't show in the sys tray?

Thanks it seems to do it for every new work unit now, was something like six hours before I shut down F@H for a few mins, relaunched and away it went folding on :?

Yes, that is correct. It runs without showign the system tray, and will usually crash while submitting the work unit.

You're problem is eerily similar to mine -- I have a P4 3.06 running two instances. It will send completed units without a problem but will sit for hours on end trying to get new WU's. Stopping and restarting the client will allow it to get a new WU immediately.

Other machines in the same place, running the same v4 client do not have the problem. It appears to be machine specific in my case. It's been doing this (on and off) for about a week.

acaurora, are you still on the V5.02 client?

And do any of your logfiles give any clues when F@H is trying to start?

Hmmm, this is starting to annoy me a little ;)

Still struggling to get a work packet, I have tried different versions of the client, with and without firewall etc..etc..etc..

When it picks up a work packet, fine. Trouble is, it can go for many hours looking (nine hours is the most so far).

Is this normal?

This certainly is not normal. Someone with a similar problem was assisted in this thread on another forum.
