Back to three Folders, hopefully back to 200PPD

Post by Zyzzyx » Thu Jun 01, 2006 7:09 pm

Dug out my old backup system, the wee little HP eVectra, a P3-566. Its not much, but it should add just enough that I can get to, and stay at, 200PPD.

I might even toss the screensaver on my parent's system. Dunno.

Well, didn't do much Folding over the summer, got too durn warm in here. But, now that its cooling off a bit, I've got all four systems going at it again. Last I checked, was at 175ppd.

Well, I say four systems, and that's true, but its probably more like the output of 1 1/2 new systems.

AMD XP-M @ 2.2ghz
AMD T-Bred @ 950mhz
Two P3s @ 500mhz

On the fast (my main) system, I'm running Linux. Thought I remember reading that the Linux client is a wee bit slower than the Windows version?

Apparently F@H can run faster under wine in Linux.....

Though I be leftearlobed if I can get Wine to work on my SuSE 10.1.....

Sorry to be of such little use, though I hope it spurns you on 8) .....

You get 200ppd with 1.5 systems? Hmm, I must be doing something wrong. I'm getting 133ppd with

1 X2 3800+ 2 instances
1 Ahtlon64 3400+
1 Sempron 2600+

All are running 24/7
I should be at 400ppd then

I've thought about F@H and Wine, but haven't looked into whether that can run as a 'service' (durn Windows terms) or not, but I doubt it. Yeah, I'm always logged into the system, but its nice not having to click anything to get FAH going, or to know that its going if I reboot and walk away.

Regarding my output, I made that comment as I don't think my three slow systems are really doing that much, probably less that half the output of a new top-end system. That, and while it does fairly well, my main system is only 2.2ghz, slower than new goodies out there. Thus my comment about only being equal to 1.5 'new' systems. But yeah, does seem like you should be seeing more than 133ppd with your setups. Dunno.
