dude
Hey, sorry Aristide, that's pretty rough. And given the time of year, dude, that just bites. I hope the degree goes well, I'm sure you'll do great with it. And don't be a stranger, just because you aren't folding doesn't mean you can't come by and post every once in a while, alright?

there you go!
Yep, there you are, now you'll have to find a new hill to climb. Maybe getting into the top 50? Keep on trucking!

Wow, one of my PCs is working on an SMP unit, project 2665, the big one.
While checkpoints vary from 20 to 45 minutes usually a couple of checkpoints on this particular one it's current working on took in excess of 3.5 hours I've never seen anything like this before. The remainder seem to have returned to about 26 minutes. I actually thought it was stuck at one point, shut it down and restarted and waited overnight for the results.
It's fair to say I can't wait for this hog of a WU to complete.

Under power consumption the GT240 uses 25 watts less than a 9600GT. A 9600 GSO (96 shaders like the GT 240) should use somewhere between the power usages of a 9600GT and a 9800GT.

Well, my two slower machines were shut off... must have been during a power outage. When I rebooted the faster one (Athlon X2 4200+) something buzzed, popped and smoked! Turned out a capacitor on the video card blew!
So, I tried another video card, and more of the same -- though this time I can't tell what's gone wrong. Sheesh.
So, should I build a new Linux machine, or use WinXP? Can Linux run the GPU client, as well as the CPU? Will an old nVidia 7600GS (or two of 'em if the 2nd video card I tried is okay!) run Folding?

bad motherboard?
Huh, well, two cards going bad, I'd say the motherboard is shot. Either the card with the bad cap killed the board, or the board is actively killing the cards. I had a board that I tried a bunch of cards in (old agp slot), and one of them failed pretty badly, and the slot never worked again. Had to put in a pci card just to see stuff. Time to upgrade to an i7, I think.
An etour? Like some pics or something? I can give you some outside shots, but opening them up would take them down for too long.

Yes, I'm pretty sure the motherboard is gone, and so the machine is dead. I was hoping it would last. I'd already rebuilt it with a new motherboard (Socket 939), and I had to modify my original Ninja, the northbridge cooler and the video card heatsink had to be reconfigured. It has 4X 1GB sticks of RAM ... sigh.
Yes, maybe an i7 running Linux and the SMP client... I have the pair of nVidia 7600GS cards (though one might now be NG...) -- do these support the GPU client?

"GeForce, Quadro, or Tesla card that supports CUDA (G80 or later for the most part)"
Here's a list of such cards - sorry but the 7600GS is not one of them
