Under this scenario you may see as much of 50% of a dual core processor at work for one GPU. This translates into 100% of one cpu core. IE this GPU is now CPU bound. OCing the GPU should not help. If your GPU is using anything less than that, even 49% or 98% of one cpu core it is not CPU bound. Easiest way to resolve this is with newer drivers. You will see some fluctuation in your checkpoint times but it should not be substantial.
