hehe I've had the same happen to me, for me it was the powersupply of my powerbook (3 1/2 year old 15" g4) - I usually have it on my desk (along with its psu brick), plugged in and in sleepmode, if the powerbook is fully charged the powersupply emits an almost inaudible coil whine though - nearly drove me bonkers as it was impossible to locate where the noise was coming from, heck I almost thought i'd developed a very minor tinitus :-P - luckily simply unplugging the powersupply solved it, took me fair while though until I found out and that was through pure luck...
