Stem Cell Advance

Post by andyb » Thu Nov 22, 2007 3:38 pm

This should (hopefully) stop all of those people that disagree with "stem cell harvesting" from embryo's stop whinging.

But only once they have proved that the stem-cells are perfect in every way and that this method is not extortionate and is reliable - here's hoping.

More importantly - this discovery proves that stem cells, and stem cell research has massive potential - the possibilities are staggering.

Of course there will need to be a new reason found to send all the heathens to pergatory.

This discovery is heaven-sent, to use that particular turn of phrase. :)

Cell regeneration could solve so many damaging, even crippling illnesses that it would be criminal not to research the field. Hope this provides another jump-start.

Thanks for bringing this up.

consuming a baby's body in order that some whiney schmuck can live more years to whine really isnt worth the effort or the possible evil.

Uhh Jefe, did you even read the article? It says that they could take the whiney schmuck's own skin cells and make them embryonic. Then they could grow him new pieces of whatever organ he wanted that matched his own DNA. That's what the application will hopefully be in the future anyway.

Ah yes, it's so much worse than throwing away the body, which is what would happened if such fertilised embryos weren't used for stem cell harvesting anyway.

Indeed. Regeneration would improve quality of life when parts of a body were lost or had to be removed. Artificial bone is hard enough to make, soft tissues even more so.
