Damn it! I typed a nice message about Katie Melua here yesterday, but it seems i was too busy listening to her and consuming my vodka that i forgot to post it... I do however remember wich song i was listening to..
Katie Melua - Blame it on The Moon
This girl can sing And she is quite hot too...
For anyone interested in vinyls, shes just released her second album "Peice by Piece" on vinyl. A 5000pcs limited run, wich is quite small compared to the 3.000.000+ sales of the cd..

A noisy Swiftech MCP350(Laing DDC) pump at 12V and 4500rpm, the sucker doesnt start at 5v, plus it makes an awful racket even inside a damped aluminium box made of 2-3mm stuff, and has enough power to make the Reserator sound like a damn fountain
As for music, Katie Melua haunts my mind! I cant even listen to bloody Children Of Bodom, on vinyl record, without she popping into my mind Overdose of female singers and vocalists me thinks..
I think its Belfast(Penguins and Cats)(and yes i actually do what the animals stand for ) playing in my head at the moment, accompanied by the fountain Res
Im just curious, are there others here who tye when they are very tired and know they will think it was stupid typing when tomorrow comes. Kind of like being drunk when sober.

Ernest Ranglin – Memories of Barber Mack (Jazz/Reggae)
I often set iTunes to shuffle, choose a genre and let it surprise me; and no, I don’t have a genre for jazz/reggae, that’s just a description.
Talking of surprises, I installed an E-MU 0404 soundcard yesterday for music production work and am amazed at how much better it sounds than the on-board sound in my A8V Deluxe when playing MP3s. I assumed that since I was already using the optical S/PDIF with the on-board sound-card to connect to my A/V Receiver that I wouldn’t get a noticeable improvement with the E-MU. Boy was I wrong.
This could be a good card for a HTPC as it has optical and coaxial S/PDIF inputs and outputs and sounds excellent, although I’m not sure if it supports DD 5.1 & DTS pass-through? It costs £60 in the UK, has MIDI I/O, stereo analogue I/O, but no microphone input, the converters are 24/192 for recording/playback. It has 2 high quality multi-effects processors on a DSP chip for music work, a comprehensive mixing utility and it comes bundled with lite versions of a number of music software packages. I went for the version bundled with Proteus X, which is a comprehensive sample based synthesizer and comes with a 2GB library including a 700 MB piano library. It’s really blown me away.

Aagh, so sublime. I can resonate with where your coming from with your selections Ralf, I’ve just scrolled back through 20+ pages just to see what you’d been listening toRalf Hutter wrote:Ry Cooder & V.M. Bhatt - A Meeting by the River
Hey Ralf, have you heard the Oregon version of this Jim Pepper tune on their album Out of the Woods? It features Colin Walcott on sitar.Ralf Hutter wrote:Jan Garbarek/Bobo Stenson Quartet - Witchi-Tai-To

Ah yes, this is probably my favorite Oregon recording. Listening to the early Oregon stuff is one of the things that steered me towards ECM artists/recordings back in the late '70's.smilingcrow wrote:Hey Ralf, have you heard the Oregon version of this Jim Pepper tune on their album Out of the Woods? And on the decks right now: Billie Holiday - Songs for Distingue Lovers

I came across Out of the Woods in a sale rack and had never heard of the band. The beautiful cover grabbed my attention and after seeing the unusual instrumentation I had to buy it; it’s still a favourite. I was fortunate enough to see the band play live not long after and they performed much of the album that night, to my delight.Ralf Hutter wrote:Ah yes, this is probably my favorite Oregon recording. ECM releases on vinyl can become a bit of a fetish with their beautiful covers; the music’s pretty good to. One of the few things I miss in the transition to CD is those ECM covers, as they don’t have much of an impact at the smaller size.
David Hykes – Baraka (OST)
Amarok here(much better than winamp, no idea how it compares overall though), it's a slighly old version(1.2.4, newest that works with kde 3.2 AFAIK) but I doubt you haven't tried it.qviri wrote:What are you folks using to play music on Linux? Currently listening to Sedes - nie jest dobrze.

amaroK is sharing music playing duties right now with mplayer, but it's certainly not it compared to foobar. There is apparently a program called LAMIP which can feature a foobar-like interface, but I'm having problems compiling it and I don't have time to dig in deeper right now.mathias wrote:Amarok here(much better than winamp, no idea how it compares overall though), it's a slighly old version(1.2.4, newest that works with kde 3.2 AFAIK) but I doubt you haven't tried it.qviri wrote:What are you folks using to play music on Linux? I never thought of mplayer as much of a music playing program. Does it by chance have an upsampling plugin?qviri wrote:amaroK is sharing music playing duties right now with mplayer, but it's certainly not it compared to foobar.
And you don't find anything odd about a band called Shitter?qviri wrote:Eh, that language sounds familiar...Currently listening to Sedes - nie jest dobrze.
That song's a bit growled, though nowhere near the point that it would be mistaken for norwegian, it's not even really hard to understand(except of course if you don't know the language).
Currently listening to Lowest of the low - So long bernie. Does that sound familiar by any chance? I'm pretty sure they're from Ontario.

ATM I'm not listening to anything. I'm in the middle of massive hardware move shuffling all of the hard drives between different systems so at the moment my main music machine is down. Hopefully when I'm done with it it's going to be much quiter which would make for a much better listening experience.
