What's a good newsgroup search engine?

Post by Happy Hopping » Wed Jan 24, 2007 5:27 pm

I have some problem w/ binsearch.info, some times it can find the listing, some other time, no. In fact, w/i the same session, 1 search show such and such item is on whatever newsgroup, and another search shows nothing.

Can someone recommend some good newsgroup search engine? I prefer a search engine that keep 90 days of thread subject.

it's not working.

On the tab where you enter

groups.google.com/group/alt.binaries.*

either I didn't get the syntax right, or none of the above group exists.

w/o entering the specific group, the end result has dozens of pages.

Maybe GG doesn't list the binaries groups? (possibly for copyright reasons?) Just a WAG on my part since I don't use GG for USENET stuff.

Perhaps Nomad News is what you're looking for. I'm not using this program so I can't comment. Like Beyonder and many users, Google Groups is what I'm using. Nomad News is supposed to be a good newsreader according to the reviews, and it handles alt.binaries newsgroups and yEnc.

I guess I wasn't clear on the subject. I have a few newsgroup reader. But this is the chicken and the egg.

I need to find a certain subject, but I won't know which newsgroup it is hiding.

So with binsearch.info, they find the subject for me. Except they are not very accurate. They missed a few subjects here and there. Supposedly binsearch search thru ALL newsgroup in the world and dig out the subject for me.

So my original question is, who's better than binsearch.info?

alt.binaries.nl is a good site. It's a little cumbersome and you need to be good with your search terms. It also lets you create .nzb files if your newsreader supports them.

I also used to use www.bincrawler.com, but it hasn't worked in a long time.
