Sony DVP-FX820 portable dvd

Post by xev » Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:22 am

I just bought the Sony DVP-FX820 player for my moms birthday. Its in a few days and i still have time to return if something.

My question: since it says it only has "DVD/DVD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD+R/DVD+R DL, CD, MP3 and JPEG Playback" will i be able to burn .avi files onto a dvd and play it?

I know that divx won't work, but is .avi considered the same type of format?

So if this player is a bust, should i get something like Toshiba SD-P91s or Panasonic LS83

AVI is a container format. The video that's inside of it could be one of many formats: MPEG1, MPEG2, DIVX, H264, etc. Anyway, since your player doesn't claim to play any of these formats* or AVIs for that matter, it is a sure bet that it can't.

* Well I'm sure it can play MPEG2 (as that's what's in DVDs) but only in the DVD Movie container format.
