24" monitor?

Post by Mettyx » Mon May 14, 2012 7:17 am

I'm afraid I completely forgot all there is to know about monitors so I can't tell them apart, which matrix is better, which values, brands, etc..

Can someone who knows about this pick 3 LCDs from this list?

Just copy the selected model name and put it here.

Also I would like a monitor that will last more than 2 years.

I don't know if it's on your short list, but I got a Dell U2412m 24" 1920x1200
monitor yesterday, and it's great. You'll need external speakers or a Dell sound
bar (I used the AX510).

My 3 picks:
Dell U2412M
Samsung S24A650D
Philips 241P4QPYES

But in reality, if I where about to by one of the monitors on that list I doubt I'd get anyone but the Dell U2412M.

That Dell has 8ms, most have 5ms?

Btw, what happened to OLED(or smthg), last time I got engrossed in monitors, which was 4 years ago, everyone was talking about how this would replace LCD by now...

Also I've become extremely weary of samsungs because right now I have 22" samsung and it didn't take long for it to start flickering, the entire series was manufactured like that.

I did some research and it is a problem across many series because they are all manufactured with crappy capacitors.
I had them replaced but it still happens, right now I have to turn on the monitor and then wait 5 minutes before daring to open anything or move mouse because it starts flickering and eventually to black screen.

so I have to wait for it to warm up and stabilize(then it is perfectly stable for however long it is turned on), really weird.

OLED screens are everywhere in things like mobile phones, but they wear out too quickly for devices that are on all the time, like monitors.

TFT Central has a review of the Dell showing some good comparisons of the blur with other monitors, and input lag measurements; it's really not that bad. I use one of these monitors myself and play Unreal Tournament on it without noticing any particular blur.

I have played CS:S with my PVA TFT monitor and it is totally usable. New LED LCDs are equally good. I didn't notice any bad blurring that would ruin the gaming experience.

And LED backlight does not automatically mean better color rendition that cold catode tube backlight. It all depends. All in all IPS and MVA/PVA panels are superior in quality compared to TN panels. The latter have slightly better response time but color rendition and viewing angles suck big time. I'd never ever buy a TN panel.

I'd buy either Dell U2412M or HP ZR2440w. Your mileage might vary. Great reviews here:

http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2 ... 2412m.html

Other models also reviewed there. All new IPS panels are suitable for gaming.

Does anyone know what could be the problem with this exact monitor, it does the exact same thing.

I already got it to the repair shop and he replaced 3 capacitors but it didn't fix the problem.
It can go on for hours without this issue, but it is increasing in frequency.

My Acer V243H (similar to the V243HAObd on your list) buzzes when the brightness is below 98% :(
