Quiet 6600GT

I'm planning to buy a PCIE 6600GT and i would like to know which VGA cooler is quieter @5V:

1)Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 6
2)Zalman VF700-AlCu /Cu

An Aerocool VM-101 or VM-102 or would be quieter (silent!) then either of those, and probably quite effective on a 6600GT if you have room above the VGA card. The VM-102 seems to be widely available in Europe.

ive got a VF700Cu @ 5v on my MSI 6600GT (PCIE) and it does the job quite nicely, although ive not actually heared the AC cooler in person so i couldnt tell u whats quieter

No,i can't have them...i have Abit AN8 with NB47J on chipset...

I don't know how tight it is between your VGA and NB-heatsink but you might be able to fit a VM-102 if you snip off some fins on the NB47, it will most likely not hamper the cooling performance of the NB47, not very much at least.

Here's a picture of my VM-101 with an NB47J (more pictures of that combination elsewhere in that gallery). As Tephras suggested, I shortened one row of spines to make it fit. The combination works fine. I believe that the VM-102 would be slightly easier to fit, since the fin area is smaller.

Your AN8 has lots of room between the PCIe slot and the CPU area, so no problem there.

Your AN8 has lots of room between the PCIe slot and the CPU area, so no problem there.

Nice...but-i have a 50mm fan below NB47J to cool NF4-4x chip...temperatures are around 40 degrees C now,but in summer...i would rather play safe...i don't need silent...quiet is good enough for me...i have my PC on the desk,30cm from me and at night when you cann hear a fly from 10m-it's OK for me...and-i will soon replace my crappy PSU with a Seasonic S12-380,i have a 92mm Revoltec @5V at the back,suspended hard drive (http://www.links.hr/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5213 - that was in beginning-now it is in a stage where i can put 2 disks,and i dont need any screws

),80mm revoltec @5V on my stock AMD cooler (A64 3000+ Venice s. 754 - 27 C idle,35 C full load - 22 ambient)...and i see that a passive 6600GT gets pretty hot...i don't like that...i play games and i play with slight ovecloacking...so passive is not an option...

If you are not in a rush, it might make sense to wait a few weeks for the 7600GT/GS to be released.

I know it will be better,butt 6600GT is more than enough for me...and...it is very cheap now

You could try something like the ASUS Extreme N6600GT Silencer/HTD.. its got a passive heatsink already. It might be a bit more expensive though.

Not an option...kosts 95 dollars more than Leadtek PX6600GT TDH here...expensive...and heats up alot...So i just want to know which is quieter-Silencer 6 or VF700?

That is the $64,000 dollar question

I've been tossing and turning wondering the same thing. The ACS exhausts heat outside the case and that apparently is the ideal situation. However, with so many complaints about the ACS fan and how after a few months or so it gets noisier, and I've heard it can rattle, I am totally confused on which way to go.

Perhaps the safest alternative is going with the Zalman VF-700 and run it at 5 volts, which shouldn't be too bad noisewise.

Sorry I can't be of more help and give you the kind of answer that we both are seeking.

I was thinking the same thing...and if it will be to noissy i can replace the fan...i see that in the "Upcoming Reviews & Articles" is planned an article about VF700 vs. NV Silencer 5...does anybody have any idea when it will show up on SPCR?

I have found one test between NV5 and VF700 Fatallity...but there is not much about which is quieter...

The problem with any review doing a short one-week or so testing are the complaints about the AC Silencer fan getting noisier over time, and can even start to rattle. So, if a review says the AC Silencer is quieter, or even just plain quiet, the question is for how long?

Have you heard the Leadtek stock fan? I have it and was about to mod it, but I don't find it objectionable. Of course this is an old gaming rig that I expect to be louder than my HTPC, in which I have a 9800pro with an Arctic Cooling silencer on it. I have had no problems with the silencer since I got it well over a year ago. Granted it is the older, speed controllable model and not the new copper ones.

I have no idea why it happens according to comments from members here. I suppose it could be either quality or difficulty in cleaning. I'm not saying everyone is complaining, but there are lots of ACS people out there complaining and not all are from ATI versions.

Oh well...unless somebody has some more info about NV6...i think it would be the best to take VF700-AlCu and if it will be noissy-replace the fan...

Well, that's about the same route I'm going to take. After reading all that I could, seems like the VF-700 would be the safer choice.

Btw, I would go for the VF-700 Cu instead of VF-700 AlCu because I read the Cu version does a little better on cooling.

But only slightly...and AlCu is lighter about 100g,and it cools X850XT from my friend,so...

When I had a (Aopen) 6600GT, I replaced the stock fan with a NV6. I was very impressed with its performance and how quiet it was. I would definitely purchase another.

I've used two AC Silencers - the original with a 9600PRO (worked fine, still works fine) and the version for the FX5950 which was noisy within two weeks and went back in the box (it was replaced with a ZM80HP and a 92mm fan).

The VF700 AlCu works just fine and is plenty quiet, especially if you undervolt the fan to 7V.
