Graphics card for Far Cry 2 and Oblivion
What would a good, silent, preferable passive, graphics card be to run these two games at 1680x1050?
Looks like the 5750 gives 40-50 fps in Far Cry 2 with bells and whistles turned on and 60ish when turned off. HD5770 runs about 10fps higher.
If Oblivion is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, then here's a benchmarkfor Fallout 3 using the same graphics/game engine. Either card will work for this game.
There's a number of threads in the forum regarding these two cards. Can't recommend going passive, but there a couple of low noise oem solutions from Sapphire, Powercolor, etc. Even the stock egg cooler can be turned down to 20% of full rpm and it's pretty quiet.

Keep in mind that you'll probably need some beefier CPU than, say, E5200 @ stock 2500 MHz. These games like lots of cache in the CPU. I recently upgraded from PDC E6300 to E8200. Only difference is actually the size of cache. While my max FPS did not really change, the min FPS (which is far more important for comfortable gaming) went up big time, to the point that "heavy" moments (major shootout, big panoramic views, lotsa critters) don't cause stuttering anymore.
Also, I'd say go with 5770. 5750 is basically 4770, and when I play Fallout 3 on 1280x1024 (19" 5:4) I still need to reduce eyecandy a little :/
