For those with a FX 59xx and the ZM80C who can check their temps, what does it typically run idle and on load?
I just installed the Zalman on mine and it runs about 50C idle (36C case--summer is not being kind) and 80-100C load (highest I recorded, thanks to Rivatuner, was 105C. Never went above 96C on 3Dmark01 or 03). If this is normal, that's fine, but if not, I'd rather go ahead and get re-installation done with while the PC hasn't been had the cables zip-tied back in place .
Aside from the overly tedious installation, I'm pretty happy with it, but can't find any info on temps. I used the grease that came with it, if it makes a difference--my Ceramique was nowhere to be found.
Edit: still couldn't find anything searching here or google, but decided it couldn't hurt to try a few things out.
It turns out I trusted the wrong screwdriver. using a Klein #2, I I got two more full rotations on the screws on the bottom HS! Now the temps peak at 80C, and I know 9800s generally get into the 70s, so that's closer to the mark.

I've tried that, same card ect. Scared me witless having my video card running at 80'c + and my case temp hitting 50'c odd. Sure these cards are rated to run at 140'c but who seriously wants a hotplate inside their case? Also 5900xt's are long cards and i did'nt like the way the it bent with the zalman on it. Not suited in my opinion.
Your temps are perfectly normal I think.
I have an FX5900U + ZM-80C, it idles at ~55C, under load it's anywhere between 75C and 100C depending on what game settings I'm using (heavy use of AA + AF seems to stress the card more, as you'd expect).
These numbers are with an 80mm Panaflo L1A @ 5V fitted to it (I've run it passive (accidentally) and it's not so happy). It's run like this since the 5900U's came out (what, 9-12 months now?), no signs of fatigue so far.
As pointed out these things are rated at 140C and lets face it they're going to be obsolete before the heat gets them.

So... using a different solution (eg. the stock cooler) isn't like having a hotplate in your case because...??? Because because the card runs cooler the heat magically disappears?I've tried that, same card ect. Scared me witless having my video card running at 80'c + and my case temp hitting 50'c odd. I later found that the 5900XT can pull up to like 90w. That settled me down on the temps a bit .
Now I've had Rivatuner monitoring during all uses, and the max is 97C, typically it will hit 92C, and idles between 41 and 44C, depending on time of day.
I have an Enermax adujstable rigged from behind, as my case doesn't have room on the side. When I move to a desktop case later this year, I'll be putting a Panaflo on top.
Also, my card is only bent by about 1/8". Not as bad as I thought.

Well no, like i said the heat that disapated from this caused my case temps to go up 15'c - 20'c This does not happen with the stock cooler hence the "hot plate" description. With the stock cooler the card sits at 48'c idle and 55'c - 60'c under load.So... using a different solution (eg. the stock cooler) isn't like having a hotplate in your case because...??? Just bought a HIS 9800pro Ice Q anyway
