New Arctic Cooling VGA Silencers Available (not confirmed)
According to a post on pcmoddingmy.com (goto to http://pcmoddingmy.com/content.php?review.81 and scroll all the way to the bottom) the new arctic cooling vga silencers are available at http://www.scythe-usa.com. The poster says that while pics of the new products are not up you can contact scytheusa for further details.
I have emailed scytheuse about availablity but have yet to receive a response.

I dunno, these prices are insane... Come on, good old Arctic Silencer 3 cost $16-18 shipped, on the other hand NV3 at lownoisepc is $35, that's more than you can get Zalman 7000CU for. I can only imagine how much NV4 and NV5 would cost...
I can't imagine paying >$300 for a new videocard and then spending another $50 for a cooler... Let's just hope that once more vendors start carrying new coolers the price would start coming down to reasonable levels.

Yep. I've been living with that stupid "Twin Turbo" dual 40mm fan system on my Leadtek 5900 and it has to goSabrewulf165 wrote:unfortunately NV4 isn't available yet, and NV5 (for 6800 series) isn't even on the list And those prices, jeez!
Still, I'd pay it, if for no other reason than my Gainward 6800GT is the loudest damn thing I've ever heard in my life. It's totally killing my low-noise PC
EDIT: The Scythe USA page has been updated. The tentative release date is August 20th.

$25 gets you:
NV Silencer 1 for GF4/5700
NV Silencer 2 for 5700 Ultra
NV Silencer 3 for 5700XT
ATI Silencer 1 for 9500 Pro/9600 Pro & XT/9700 Pro/9800
$30 gets you:
NV Silencer 4 for 5900/5950
NV Silencer 5 for all 6800
ATI Silencer 2 for all 9600
ATI Silencer 3 for 9800XT/9800 Pro
ATI Silencer 4 for all X800
And of course, the NV Silencer 4 (the one I need) isn't available yet

Here's the link, just in case:

I thought NV4 was delayed due to issues with the 5900 series taking up 2 expansion slots and the PCI slot cover being solid. Otherwise you'd have to cut a hole in the slot cover to exhaust the air.
One other thing noted....from what the guy on AMDMB told me, these DO NOT have fan adjustments. They run at a predetermined speed set by AC.
IMO this kinda kills the whole point of buying one.
I just bought another Radeon 9800 Pro. Will be sticking with this until something better comes along in terms of VGA Cooling. Hopefully AC puts a fan adjustment on these....

Ugh. I found out today the ATI Silencer 1 does not fit the 9700 AIW Pro. DARN!pangloss wrote:Guesses as to why the arctic-cooling web site hasn't been updated to reflect the new vga coolers? Was looking for an updated compatibility chart.
I don't see any explicit mention of the new coolers' compatibility with the ATI 9700 AIW. Explicit omission == incompatible?
Update! From Scythe, no AIW compatability at all with the new Silencers
Dear Sir,
Greeting from Scythe USA, I hope this message finds you well.
Unfortunately, none of the new VGA Silencers fits AIW series, therefore,
the Rev.3 (previous version) remains the only one compatible with the
series.
Thank you very much for your inquiry, and we look forward to serving you
sooner.
Sincerely,
Scythe USA, Inc.
I got mine today (NV5) and I'll try to install it tonight and post here with results. I know there is no speed control, but my 6800 GT has a fan control algorithm on it's own, so I'm assuming it will still ramp the fan speed up and down based on it's internal temps, which is better than an on/off switch at the back of the case anyway... at least for me.
<edit> And yeah I paid 50 dollars for a quiet cooler on my already overly expensive video card

Arctic Cooling NV5
BFG 6800 GT (oc'd to 410 core, memory 1.06 Ghz)
Athlon 3000+ w/ Thermalright SLK-800A w/ Evercool aluminum 80mm @ 6 volts
Spinpoint 1614N on sorbothane (inaudible!)
Antec Sonata, a bit modded
Ok, so I'm not crazy about the noise characteristics of the fan in there... seems like it's a bit clicky, but once I close up my case I can barely hear it (especially once the card slows the fan down). A heck of a lot quieter than the stock dual 40mm (?) fans.
Ambient room temp: 22C
Temps with original VGA Cooler:
IDLE
32 - case
41 - CPU Diode
32 - HD
67 - GPU
Playing Counter-Strike Source for 20 minutes or so
34 - case
51 - CPU Diode
32 - HD
80 - GPU
Temps with AC NV5:
IDLE
24 - case
38 - CPU Diode
31 - HD
56 - GPU
Playing CS-Source for 20 minutes or so
26 - case
44 - CPU Diode
32 - HD
71 - GPU
I am _very_ happy with the temps.
As is, my machine is a LOT quieter than the stock fan, but definitely a tad louder than my old 9800 pro with the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer rev. 3.
I have it about 18 inches from my ear right now, so once I put my case back into my desk it will be near inaudible... just a little air whooshing around.
EDIT: I've had a few spontaneous reboots since putting this on, despite the fact that the temps seem lower (it was rock solid before)... Still investigating...
