ThermalRight supposedly was questioning the idea of making it passive or active. Let's get SPCR to review this heatsink when it's out!

Interesting, and most likely expensive. Looks like it takes an 80mm. Well, it makes sense for Thermalright to move into VGA cooling, since overcockers, who are probably the target audience for Thermalright, don't just settle for a CPU gain.

Unfortunately, I predict that this will cause problems with the Lian Li V-series cases, or any other case which has the GPU facing upwards.

hmm..... i'ld put a nexus on that sucker! but it doesn't look like theres any cooling for the ram.

hhope i can use it on my 6800 GT.....
anyone know how big of a ram sink you need for a 6800 GT? cas on the gainward 6800 models the ram sinks are huge.

I'll have to wait for more specs/images before passing an opinion. As daba points out, it probably won't work with the V1000/1100/2000/2100 series of cases, like the Zalman ZM80D-HP doesn't.

Where does the air go??? If you mount a fan on that thing its going to blow... not on that little waffle grill, its just gonna hit the back of the plastic.

i guess if u have the fan blow it would go against the back of the card.

i think it would be better if it sucked the air so that air goes upward towards the case fan, cpu, and psu.

It's all good, but I think fitting this thing in a regular SPCRer will be problematic since most of us already have an oversized CPU cooler, so this new GPU cooler+80mm fan simply might not fit. At least I don't think it will work with my Zalman7000.

the top part of the cooler looks like it has been extended outwards to fit the NB heatsink and the CPU heatsink to accomidate the CPU heatsink size. i think thermalright would try their hardest to keep their range of coolers compatibale with each other. lets hope they do

what would be the obvious side effects of using Zalman ZM80D-HP on V1000/1100/2000/2100 series of cases cos i've been using this combination for almost 2 months now but yet to encounter any problem.
would the card die a slow death or is it jus the principle of heatpipe cooling.

I would also be interested to know what the effect is going to be with upside layout V1000 etc and that type of cooler. In particular, does anyone know if any actual testing has been done comparing upside down with the other way up?

I appreicate that the orientation is not what Zalman recommend but I've been using Zalman cooler for a couple of months now and with the fan I haven't had any problems.

What I have noticed is that without the fan (which is slightly noisy even at 5v), the GPU side of the heatsink gets very hot (you can't keep your finger on it for more than say 5 seconds). The underside heatsink doesn't seem to get anywhere near as hot. Perhaps the heatpipe isn't working as effectively with the upside down layout? I say perhaps, because I can't be bothered to plug everything into a non-V1000/V2000 type case to make a comparison.

I also say that I haven't had any problems with the fan installed because without the fan, I have had the occasionally game crash during games which really stress the graphics card. Difficult to say conclusively though whether this is something to do with the GPU overheating or something else in the system. Also my graphics card is overclocked (from the stock core 250mhz/mem 450mhz to 275mhz/500mhz) and also has no memory heatsinks.
