They make noise, too.

Thermaltake passive cooler?

Post by Tyrdium » Sat Nov 27, 2004 8:41 am

Has anyone here used the Thermaltake passive graphics card cooler? I've only been able to find one review, but it seems to say that the Thermaltake cooler - without a fan - performs as well as the ZM-80D with the ZM-OP1 at 12 volts. Any idea if the review is correct?

That seems really strange, though I guess it could be possible since thermaltake has quite a bit more experience with heatpipes, and IIRC the TT cooler is much heavier.

It's a bit heavier (425 grams v. 350 grams), but if it cools better... :P

Sounds like great news to me. Normally TT don not make good stuff, but it seems like this good be a nice exception :D

I'm all for fanless GPU's. It looks like this one may even work on a 6800GT (given that the GT has similar thermal dissipation to the 9800 Pro).

Unfortunately, given its shape, I do not think it will fit on the new 6600 series of cards. Although, I would like to be proved wrong on that one.

Well, as luck would have it, I just logged in to write a quick review of that cooler and found this question.

Short answer is ... it's good.

Long answer, well, you'll just have to wait while I write it up :)

UPDATE: Here it is

Wow, nice timing! :D

Sweet, it looks like a good cooler... And yeah, hopefully luminous will be proven wrong on the 6600 GT compatability. :D

Edit: Looking at the modded 9700 Pro on Thermaltake's site and a 6600 GT (XFX PCIe), they appear to have a similar layout. It looks like it may fit after all. Hurrah!

Do you know if this would fit a 6800? The PCB's are much longer in the 6800's and the heatpipes already have little clearance with a smaller ATi pcb.
