NV Silencer 5 and 6600GT 128 PCI-E cards
Hi All,
First post here, this is a great forum and a great site.
I've recently followed a number of recommendations here and gotten my machine to be very, very quiet (specs in my signature). The loudest component left is the stock fan heatsink on my MSI NX6600GT 128 PCI-E. I'm hoping to replace it with an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5, but I'm not sure that it's compatible with the PCI-E version of the 6600GT card.
I've looked very carefully at the chip and memory arrangements of the MSI video card as well as how the plate of the NV Silencer 5 is laid out, and they look like they should match up properly. I was just wondering if anyone can confirm this by experience or by a link.
If you follow this link: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php? ... ta=4&disc=# you can see the plate for the NV Silencer 5. The general layout and placement of the lowered areas (for the memory) and the plate itself for the GPU seem consistent with the layout of the card, but it's hard to say without having both in front of me.
I've looked on the net for references, but they all seem to refer to the AGP version of the card.
Are there other products which are compatible with the MSI NX6600GT if the NV Silencer 5 is not?

Got the package yesterday. The NV Silencer 5 is not compatible with my MSI NX6600GT PCI-E.
The problem is that the plate has two 45 degree canted diagonally off-set plates to sit on top of the RAM. These plates do not have sufficient clearance for the various component heights around those locations on my 6600GT.
I'll keep this NV 5 ($35 CDN at bigfootcomputers.com) in case I ever get a 6800 and buy the NV 6 if/when it comes out.

You might also consider a cooler from Zalman.
Both their passive cooler (ZM80D-HP) and their active cooler (VF700) fit the PCI-e 6600GT.
When I get my 6600GT I will be slapping the ZM80D-HP on it.

The NV Silencer 6 (Rev. 2) just went up on newegg.com last night for $37 (a bit high, but nobody else seems to have it yet). I just ordered one for my PCI-Express version of the 6600.
(Note: if there are others like me that went with the 6600 rather than the 6600GT, the NV Silencer 1 (Rev. 2) also is supposed to handle the PCI-e 6600. However, I have not been able to confirm that any of the online retailers is actually carrying the Rev. 2 rather than the original.)
