replacement fan for zalman zf700cu

Post by Alucard » Thu Apr 28, 2005 2:13 am

I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the stock fan in the zf700cu with something that cools better and is quieter. Zalman always seems to use cheap fans that still make an annoying noise at 5v if you listen to it, and are never useful at 12v cause they make too much noise. I was thinking of trying to stick a panaflo l1a or maybe something faster and 5-7v it. I'm not worried if it sticks out a bit more, unless anyone has another good quality silm fan I can buy and put in. Looking for better cooling and lower noise.

The performance improvement is neglectable, despite replacing
the 15mm thick fan with a 25mm L1a. However it's much easier
to your ear. My problem is that I simply cannot find a good 80mm
fan here. Bought a few chinaflows but were not impressed, tried
a few other fans (globe, papst) but ended up with the ADDA
AD0812DX-A76GL. It's certainly not perfect, but good enough
until I can find a replacement. I would like to try the 80x15 L1a
if I can only find one.

One more thing: almost all sleeve bearing fans make more
noise upside down.

Maybe I can post pics later.

Edit: I wonder if a Nexus 80mm would do the job?

If you think the problem is with sleeve bearings, then maybe a glacialtech silentblade would work well. Other than that, you might want to try yate loons, we apparently cleaned out tek-gems of the 80mm ones as well, even though they seems to be considered less useful than 120mm fans, so maybe those who got them will be less relluctant to part with them.

I'm not sure why you want to try 15mm panaflos, they're still panaflos, and the 80x25's are among the better ones.

...glacialtech silentblade, aha! A fan I haven't tried :)

I will try the Nexus too, but if it doesn’t work, maybe I
should buy a few more L1A to see if I have some luck.
