Supposedly is bigger and better. Still can't find any news/info really about it, though

Available from Newegg for 31 US$, in stock now. I can't notice differences with respect the Rev.2 version. 2-pin connector and 2,500 rpm fan, hmmm... I was expecting a 4-pin pwm fan for the 7800 GTXs. I'm planning to get a 7800 GT if I'll need it for Oblivion, but I'm not sure if this 'revised' Silencer would be quiet enough (constant 2,500 rpm is not promising).

Specs say 2,000 rpm fan.

Slightly confused so far. Looked on websites, the NV 5.3 is rated at .9 sones while the ATI 5.2 is rated at .5 sones. Both fans look identical, with same speed (2000 RPM I think). Maybe AC's just being more honest now?

They really should do proper benchmarks. A comparison with Zalman VF700 is really necessary.

Arctic Coolings specs on their different silencers have always been inconsistent. As an example, in an earlier thread I wrote that "The ATI Silencer 4 fan runs at 2200 RPM with a noise level of 0.5 sone while the NV Silencer 4 fan runs at 2000 RPM at 0.9 sone. And the ATI Silencer 1 fan have an RPM of 1500 with a noise level of 0.5 sone while the NV Silencer 1 fan on same RPM has a noise level of 0.3 sone.", so it's basically impossible to do any comparisons based on the official specs from AC.

Is it the noise which is different, or just the rating?

Saw this review. Looks impressive temps wise, but no comment about noise. Fan speed wasn't controlled either, though this "**Ripple Noise Solution
A filter is integrated into the PCB to reduce the noise generated from the motor." might solve the only issue I've had with my AC ATI 5.2 (which is only noticible from a very close distance and at low fan speeds).

Slightly OT, the Zalman VF700 works with 7800 series, right?

The noise reducing filter was introduced in the second revision of the AC ATI/NV Silencers, so it's not a feature that's specific to the rev.3 NV Silencer 5. In fact, I think the filter, as a measure to overcome the noise issues that users had complained about, was the main reason to why they released another revision. If this filter works as intended, well, that's another story.

Dissagree, it's on topic. You know AC is going to be better then stock cooling. Why would they sell such products otherwise. My point is that reviewing cooling solutions in comparison with stock cooling is useful, but there should always be a reference to competing products, in this case Zalman. Otherwise you still don't know which one is the best.

VF700 does work on GeForce 7 series:

Dutch forum but you'll get the "picture".

But with the VF700 you dont get any ram sinks for the memory. Dont know if that is problematic cause I havent tried it, just saying...

Well, they should be included.

My VF700 has ramsinks.

I'm going to buy the AC cooler. I like the idea of it venting the heat from the back of the case. The only thing I don't like about my zalman, besides the kinda noisy fan is the large amount of heat dispersed into the case.

So has anyone installed one yet? How's the noise? Have they fixed that damned clicking fan?

I'm pretty sure they have. I have an ATI Silencer 1 Rev. 2 on my 9800 Pro and there is no clicking noise at all (I also have a pre-Rev. 2-version and it's terrible in that regard). I'm running it at 7V and it's simply inaudible.

newegg is out of stock right now, but the frozen site at the top of this thread has some.

I ordered mine. As soon as I install it, I'll post back with results as compared to my Zalman VF700.

I also have a CNPS9500 on order. With the push/pull effect in my P180 also with the vid card heat getting shot out the back, I'm anticipating a significant drop in temps on all my components. Hope it works as speculated.

EDIT: Is this the same exact cooler that Asus has on their 7800TOP card?

At least 1 person with common sense! Thank you :).

It is certainly Silencer NV5. Rev2 of Rev3, but I think Rev3 since that Revision is specifically put on the market for GF7 series:

http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=40
indicates that:
Rev.3: additionally compatible to 7800 series
available from October 15
