They make noise, too.

fanless AGP dual DVI

Post by QuietMind » Fri Apr 07, 2006 1:13 am

I found a fanless AGP dual DVI card by using Newegg's search tool:

ATI Radeon® 9600 PRO PC & Mac® Edition

AnandTech has a review.

I'm ordering one right now.

Hiy if you have bought the card, would you mind sharing where did you buy it? It had a rebate a while ago, but no more, so for a MSRP $200 price tag, it's a bit pricy.

Sure, I ordered it from Buy.com because I like their return policy better than Newegg's. It cost me $193.99, and I agree that's pricey, but I'm so busy right now I'd rather spend extra money to have a quiet solution out of the box than spend extra time modding a card to make it quiet.

If one were to get just fanless AGP GPU and "one" DVI, there are enough choices. For those who want dual DVI, it's a battle between your wallet and your desire  not to mention somewhat acceptable performance.

This one I would be able to fit in my Shuttle case no problem. Now only if I could convince myself to actually pay for one. 8)

Thanks for rubbing the cost in my face. :x Show me a cheaper dual DVI & I'll buy it instead.

no one's 'rubbing' the cost in your face. i was offering them as options just in case the -dual- dvi part wasn't mandatory.

I got the card, downloaded the latest Linux driver from ATI's website, and there's a glitch with 3D applications. A bright pink warning card in the box reads "IMPORTANT! -- Do Not Return This Product, ATI Customer Care Offers FREE Product Support". So I register at ATI's site, submit a trouble ticket, and get the reply:
The Linux drivers available from ATI are provide are "as is".
What?! They don't support their own drivers, and they don't bother to tell me that until I'm this far in the process. I'm sending it back and buying an nVidia. I wasn't able to find an nVidia without a fan, so I'll have to mod one to make it quiet, but at least I'll know it will work properly.

Sigh.
