Good - quiet VIVO card

Post by srbliss » Sun Apr 09, 2006 11:52 pm

Actually I don't care about video out - just video in. I can't find any info on the quality of the video capture of cards that support it. I would like one of the new Nvidea cards but they don't support vivo yet. I'm not a big gamer but I would like to be able to run GT legends at high quality and framerate. I need the vivo to covert a bunch of vcr tapes.

What CPU do you have? What other games do you play? What resolution do you play at?

Do you have a spare PCI slot below the video card slot? AGP or PCI-E? Do you have two slots for cooling + TV card?

What do you have currently?

Do you mind modifying the cooling yourself, voiding warranty, with an aftermarket quiet cooler, or prefer it stock?

How quiet do you want it to be? Is there a point if the rest of your PC is noisy?

I have one spare PCI slot. I have an ASUS 6150 MB with a A64 3500 latest stepping. I want to upgrade the video because the 6150 is not enough for GTL at 1280x1024. I would like to upgrade and get vivo at the same time. I was originally planning on getting a rage 550 and then I found this damn game that I just have to play. :D I don't play any other games. Someday I might play Quake 2 again.
As far a quiet level goes the PC is silent from 2 feet. Zalman 9900 with nexus fan, +80 ps, notebook hd etc. I also have a digital audio labs carddeluxe pro sound card and it is outstanding. This pc was built for recording LPs to HD but it's so quiet (and nice to use) that I am turning it into my main rig and turning my old PC into a CNC mill controller.

Hauppauge PVR-150 or ATI Rage Theatre 550 add-ons are better options (MPEG2 hardware encoders). Far less time consuming. The PVR-150 eats macrovision.

I have GTR and the X800XL performs pretty good. You'll probably need an X850 XT for all the eye candy though. The the ATI cards have VIVO too :)

It has a Rage Theatre chip built in.
