They make noise, too.

Best way of Loading GPU

Post by Fat_bloater_dave » Tue May 16, 2006 7:31 am

What is the best way to load my GPU (for testing purposes) Would it be 3D Mark or is there a program designed for it like CPU Burn for CPUs.

I use RTHDRIBL, which runs in a window on the desktop so temps, etc. are still visible, unlike 3DMark0x.

Also, the artefact detection tool on ATI Tool works very well for boosting GPU temp. I've found it to be just as hot as RTHDRIBL. In fact, when it was running in the background (underneath another window), the temperture was even higher than with RTHDRIBL. I wish I could explain that...

In any case, either of these will put a higher sustained load on your GPU than any real world application that I've seen.

Don´t know if im doing something wrong, but i get 10c° higher temps with ATITool than with this RTBLEGFLS thing. I just downloaded it and tried it, ill stick to ATITool since i knw how it works and have it on for temp monitoring at all times anyway :) The card is a x800GTO@ 577/530(stock 400/500, XT PE core)

Video card stress testing with RTHDRIBL is best done at the highest possible resolution in fullscreen, to put more strain on the GPU one could change between the different 3D-models and light environments.

Another method entirely is to use Everest, assuming it can read the temperature off your particular VGA card. I works with the 7600GT even though it does not officially support it yet. It can log to an html file while running any full screen or windowed demo. Many of the hardware sites loop the first or second part of 3dMark05 to test temperature.

Also, if you are lucky, Speedfan might recognize the sensor on your VGA card and it records a graph of the last 13 minutes.

For temperature reading, it's hard to beat Rivatuner, with a nice graph. You also get a matching history of speeds, so you can see if it throttled.

Thanx for all the sugestions i used RTHDRIBL and set it in such a way it was running at 13fps which i guess is good enough and i tested the stock cooler, well my Aerocool VM-102 Came today so time to install it and test that :D
