I installed a zm80D-hp on my ASUS 7800gt, and now it might be broken.
I enlarged 2 diagonal holes around the core from 2 to 3mm
and dropped the card lightly on the table from a hight of 2-3dm.
It works fine in safe mode and without drivers installed
but when I install drivers it goes nuts.
Also theres some weird background patterns in bootup
and extra random lines in the bios text.
Did I break it ? or is it running too hot ?
I can't test it on another PC ( because it's PCI-E )
and I can't try with the factory cooler since I threw that away
thinking I would never switch from the zalman cause of the install hassle.
On a side note,
the card behaves the same with or without the extra power cord.
So I was thinking that maybe theres a fuse disabling the extra power
that went off when I uninstalled the factory cooler ?
or maybe it powers down
knowing that there's no fan attached thrue some resistor ?
Anyone here with similar problems ?
I hate to buy the same card again, cry
HELP :/

It's too late to be of any use to you, of course, but that cooler isn't meant to be installed on the 7800GT without the ZM80D-IK1 kit mentioned here. Not sure how you enlarged the holes, so it's hard to tell if the process may have caused your problem.
If I were to guess from your description of the problem, I'd say you have a damaged RAM chip on the card - maybe physical damage, maybe overheating. Either way there's not much you can do, even getting an RMA will be hard if you don't have the stock cooler.
Moral of the story: Never throw away the stock cooler...
