Zalman VF900 modded with a 80x25 Scythe DF - Updated, Photos
Just got in a VF900 today for my 7600GT vivo. I went ahead and ordered a Young Lin 80x25mm along with it.
Before I started hacking it in, I thought it would be prudent to see if anyone here has already done the 80x25 mod. If so, show off your work/technique!
Thanks

When I ordered the VF900 from newegg, I noticed they had a cheap 2krpm Scythe DF, so I went ahead an ordered it too.

The fun begins. My CA glue had been on the shelf so long it was just about too viscous to use, but I made it happen lol. Go to pickup some Pacer Thin CA for a Guillow RC project though...
The finished project. I'm very happy with result.

Haven't forgotten about your question. I'm just still putting this rig together and overclocking and undervolting is always the last priority on my list. Right now I'm messing with a totally independent, dual XP installations on one harddrive via Grub. Makes me love my VectorLinux more and more lol.
The Scythe DF spins at 2k @ 12v. That's 500rpms less than the stock fan @ 12v. Not sure how much better it is than the stock fan since I didn't bother to do any stock fan testing, but the Scythe solution is also ~3C cooler than the stock hs/fan solution (idle temps).
I would say the ScytheDF solution @ 12v to be about as quiet and the stock hs/fan solution's max quiet setting (in OS with nvidia driver installed). That's a really informal guestimate though. I won't be about to give you an idea right now as to how quiet the ScytheDF soultion @ 5v is as everything in my rig is for the moment @ 12v, but I'm exited at its potential. The extra thickness of the Scythe solution over the stock VF900 solution gives the Scythe a more than trivial edge, I'm sure.
