Need Brand Recommendation for a 7600gs
Well my last XFX 7600gs wouldnt work with my new system, but it works fine in my old system. Since its an upgrade for my old system and didnt cost that much i'll just leave it there.
I know its not my new motherboard because i can put a 6600gt on it and it works, but i cant fit an aftermarked cooler on a 6600gt in my new case, and i dont want a fan. Only thing that will fit is a 7600gs
I've heard from other people that certain brands of 7600gs dont like certain motherboards. So far ive heard this about BFG, XFX, and 3D Fuzion.
I would prefer to get a single slot passive heatsink solution with dual DVI ports. The only other brand that has one like that that i can find is from MSI.
So should i go with MSI or somthing else? ive heard good things about Asus and Evga. What do you guys think?

I actually cant use the gigabyte card because of the heatpipe that extends beyond the end of the card. A stock 7600gs board BARELY fits, with a couple milimeters to spare before its touching the 80mm fan on the front of the enclosure.
So it has to be the nvidia reference stock single slot passive heatsink.
I checked that review you mentioned. The EVGA had the lowest temps, which would suggest to me that the method they used to mount the heatsink is better in some ways to the other 7600gs'.
I didnt see any other distinguishable differences between any of the other 7600gs' in the review, other than the fact that the MSI card had dual DVI while all the rest had 1x DVI and 1x VGA.
I'm leaning towards MSI, EVGA, or and ASUS.
MSI for the dual DVI
EVGA for the low temps in that review at anandtech
Asus just because ive always prefered their motherboards.

While I can't speak *specifically* about the 7600GS
I've had remarkably good luck with the eVGA 7600GT. They seem to build high quality products and have a great warranty.
Unfortunately, they still don't have an HDCP/HDMI 7600GS for MCE. <sigh>

My experience with eVGA has been quite different. I bought a version of their 7600GS board that is plain defective, DVI port will not work. Their forum has a thread with a large number of people documenting this. eVGA would never comment on it or acknowledge it. Fortunately NewEgg was willing to take it back without restock fee, taking up the slack.

Not passive, but I have a BFG 7900GS OC and a Pentagram XC-80 Cu at 5V.
Work flawless and silent with my ABIT KN9.

I am considering that very card from XFX. It has the exact same heatsink as the EVGA model that performed so well in terms of temps in that Anandtech roundup.NeilBlanchard wrote:I have two of the XFX "Extreme" cards in my machine. They have been flawless, and I am using 3 out of the four DVI outputs!
Here's one that looks like the ones I have...
For those who havent seen one, the heatsink looks like it has a "U" shaped heatpipe embeded in it (cant see it in the photo above).
Can you tell us what sort of temps you're getting with your XFXs?

I'm happy with my Albatron. No problems at all. Really cheap and came with Call Of Duty 2 (which I sold for good price )

I just checked out the passive GFX card review at Anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2825&p=17). I compared the 7600GS cards, and wonder how come the idle/load temperature can differ so much between different cards based on the same GPU and memory?
Also, will it make any difference anyway? I noticed that all the 7600GS cards consume approximately the same amount of effect, so I guess they dissipate the same amount of heat (in watts) into the computer case? If that is the case, then does it mean that the cards with the lowest temperatures are simply better at transporting the heat out into the air, but they will heat up the computer case just as much anyway? And as long as the temperature is low enough for the GPU to not get damaged, it really doesn't matter which card you buy?
