Gainward 7600GS AGP & Aerocool VM-101

Post by fouster » Mon Oct 16, 2006 2:12 am

Hi there!!
I'm interested in buying a 7600GS AGP card and to put Aerocool VM-101 on it !
Is this possible ? I mean is it compatible or there is a chance for let's say a capasitor not to let the cooler to be on the card ?

I'm specifically interested in Gainward 7600GS AGP cause I find it in a low price.
I have already emailed Gainward but guess what! No answer.

Thanks

That cooler seems like a big overkill for a 7600GS. I'd suggest trying to find the passive Gigabyte 7600GS AGP instead, it might be a bit more expensive to start with but you'll still have warranty and should be cheaper if you include the cost of the VM-101 (unless you already have that, of course).

Here's a thread describing a VM-101 on a 6600GT AGP card. It doesn't fit "square" with the card, but otherwise apparently OK.

Well I already have this cooler!
And as far as heat is concerned it can handle it just fine!! :D

I just need to be assured that the cooler will fit to the card!

There appear to be two versions of the 7600GS AGP card: one with several components "above" the GPU chip like this one from Asus, and the more common versionwith just memory chips in that direction. If the Gainward is like the latter then it seems quite likely it will fit. The Asus design seems much less likely to fit because they would interfere with the heatpipes extending over the card edge. I'd also think that the location of the push pins on the Asus design would result in a too-skewed mounting of the VM-101 block on the GPU chip.

I think cards have height restraints to their components, that the VM-101 has taken into account, at least that's what I saw with my Zalman 80D-HP. Only conflict could be with the heatsink on the actual GPU die, that might interfere with die frame or other components, but from the pictures of the VM it seems unlikely.

Here it is!

It seems like a rather "clean" design :)
