Well, that is quite a big reduction if you really measured the temps at identical conditions.

yah pretty good... but i would suspect that your stock cooler wasn't on tight... i have a evga 7900 gto that idles at around 39C.

my old x800xl used to idle in the 50's and peak over 100c! cooler didn't sit right from the factory.

wasnt that. the thermal crap they put on there was horrible. it was a chunky creamy gray and was oozing around the core. I had to use two servings of arctic clean to get the stuff off.

Mine idles around 35-36 C, or at least that's what nVidia's utility says it's idling at.

mine idles at 42c, havent tested it at load, but considering the default core slowdown threshold is at 110c im not too worried about temps.

nice improvment! good for you :) could be that factory did crappy job installing it, but the goo was probably no good anyway

btw - do you guys find the gto quiet / super quiet / loud / bearable / effectively inaudible or ... ??? i heard and read the cooler with its large lo-speed fan is an excellent construction, by far the best stock active vga cooler there is... but the more i ask the easier i am :) i'm thinking this is my next card. also, do you think you can compare it to some other coolers (afermarket like zalman semiflower, accelero etc.) ?

I did the exact same thing on my BFG 7800GTX, but I did replaced the tape on the RAMs also by Arctic Silver5. Temperature at idle of the CPU was around 55C before. Now it is idling at 45C.

RAMs temps also droped dramatically, passing from 51C to 40C.

This is a 10C drop in temp at idle.

Not really related, but has anyone managed to get fan control working automatically? I can set it to a fixed speed in RivaTuner, but i canät get it to load the settings automatically.

I also tried editing the bios with nibitor, it worked for new clocks but fan speeds are the same..

My MSI card idles at 40c with 2D clocks, and 43c with 3D clocks, and i want to runt he fan at 25% at idle. At that setting i cant hear it, the NeoHE 430 is the loudest component, and it's not even ramping up.

I haven't been able to change fan controls with anything except rivatuner myself. It seems nvidia's utility doesn't detect speed, neither does nibitor.
