Thermalright HR-03 Review

I emailed thermalright this exact question. They said they are coming out with a 8800 version, release date unknown but it would probably be sometime in Jan 07. My guess is the current HR-03 could easily handle the 8800 heat if it can be modified to fit, I haven't heard of anyone doing this yet though. I snagged the Dell deal for a 8800 GTX for $520 and it should be here sometime in Dec, I can't wait!qstoffe wrote:Thermalright HR-03 doesn't support the 8800 series (NVidia)
Does anybody know if there will be a revision for this anytime soon ? Or in other words before christmas
Do you think it would be possible/easy to mod the HR-03 to fit on a 8800 card ?
I just bought an HR-03...was going to try to mod it onto my X800PRO....it doesnt look good at all. I can assure you there doesn't appear to be any way to "mod" the mounting hardware supplied with the kit to fit the X800 cards.Bluefront wrote:Out of curiosity....has anyone seen this VGA cooler mounted on an ATI card that only uses two mounting holes?
1.) I'm going to email Thermalright for a potential bracket kit from them.
2,) See if I can find a shop locally to fabricate a bracket kit.
I'm currently using a Zalman VF-900 Cu,but the fan is too noisy at any setting other than "all the way down". I bought a ZM-80D HP Dual Heat Pipe passive cooler and never used it because I dont think its up to the task of even a now lowly X800 PRO 475/450. I run the card at 472/554 with reference dividers of 2 w/ATI Tray Tools for gaming

TedMC...thanks for that last bit of info. I suppose the supplied bracket doesn't match the two holes on an X800? I have an X800XT -AIW. I have the ability to make a bracket to match the two holes, but I wonder if the cooler would apply too much torque for a two-hole mount. I would worry about uneven pressure between the chip and the cooler base.
May end up buying one to try out.....expensive experiment though.

The supplied bracket is a 4 hole design. I had the hope that I could just use 2 of the existing holes to mount it on my X800,but the orientation of the 2 holes on the X800 is offset from the HR-03's and the HR-03 wouldn't align itself correctly. (If you saw this it would be much easier to visualize).Bluefront wrote:TedMC...thanks for that last bit of info. I suppose the supplied bracket doesn't match the two holes on an X800? The weight of the Zalman 900 is 270g,Zalman ZM80D-HP is 350g and Thermalright HR-03 is also 350g(without fan). The Zalman's heat pipes bend aound the "end" of the card so the stress is along the length of the card, whereas the Thermalright's heat pipes bend around the "side" of the card. I think there is no problem in that area, the board is plenty meaty for this weight. Was planning to use a Zalman Bracket to mount the fan for cooling of the unit to keep the additional fan weight off the card.
