heatsink from 7900GTO

Post by HiFi » Wed Dec 06, 2006 8:22 pm

i currently have a 7900gt runing a VF-700 and i was wondering is there any place that just sells the 7900GTO heatsink? because that model exhausts the heat out the back of the case, which my vf-700 does not.

i was also looking (briefly) into that as i fell in love with this heatsink. alas, i couldn't find any place selling it w/o a 7900 card - bummer. all you can do, i guess, is to hunt auction services for damaged / badly flashed / fried gto or gtx cards and hope to get it cheap enough

air out of case - hmm, yeah, but just a little bit - i guess it prolly makes some difference, but not much. some of the air, or even most, will stay inside anyway. i haven't checked it thoroughly (i still haven's iso 9001, what a bummer) but i just don't think it makes a lot of difference.

keep in mind there are at least four cards using this cooling - 7900gto, 7900gtx (have it), 7800gtx 256 (will sell it), 7800gtx 512 w higher clocks

maybe get the cheapest one, swap coolers, sell whichever you don't want with the zalman? since tha layout is the same with all 7900 you shouldn't have problems

or... hunt for a 7900gtx (getting cheaper day by day now) and sell your current vga... you'd have to cough up some cash, sure, but you'll end up with an even stronger card and - imo, and not only imo - the best factory cooling system so far (and one the very best includind aftermarket gear)

IMO about 25% of the hot air is directly exhausted by the 7900 GTX / GTO stock cooler.
And it wouldn't fit on your 7900 GT, the card layout is different.

I am also after a HSF unit from a HIS ICEQ3 card, or the stock X1950XTX cooler. However, it seems impossible to find these separately. I wish I knew which OEM's made them...
