Low end graphics card AGP
Which is cooler? Geforce FX5200 or Radeon 9250. Both have small passive heatsinks.
Thanks
Thanks
This is for a server computer. I just need something to display in 2d, since it does not have on-board graphics.
I need one which produces the least heat. I already have nividia drivers installed (from my last card) so if I use the geforce FX5200 I will not need to reformat.
But if the Radeon 9250 is cooler than the FX5200 I will give it a go.

just get any 4MB PCI card on ebay for peanuts, they hardly use any juice. you don't need to reformat your hard drive if you change a graphics card... just uninstall the old drivers and install the new ones (for a windows PC you can probably just use the default windows drivers for the PCI card).LBadvance wrote:This is for a server computer. Agreed. For a server, you really don't need ANY horsepower. The standard on-board chip for servers has traditionally been the ATI Rage 128. It is silent, consumes little electrical power, has little computing power, and is perfectly adequate. You can choose a comparable nVidia or Matrox flavor if you like.
Yeah, for a server, find a $10 graphics card.
For my mom I gave her a passive Geforce 6200 for ~$40, good for anything she will need (no 3D). Could probably find a used Radeon 9600 and get better performance too, just need to find one passively cooled.
But for a server? I've got an 8MB Blade here in my P3 router/firewall/VPN box.
Check out Centrix-Intl.com, under the Misc & Cables, Audio/Video category. They about 5 different cards under $20 that would do what you need, some new, some used.
Good luck.

I've used a couple Rage Pro's in server boxes. For $5, you get something more than adequate for occasional 2d usage.
