Ultimate GPU burn-in software
I have experimented and found that this particular software, the Nvidia Smoke Demo, really stresses and burns the GPu, much more so than AtiTool Artifact Scan, which is already known for stressing the GPU. Smoke Demo gave a 10C higher load temp! I believe if yr system can survive this software, it can survive anything u throw at it.
Take care, make sure your system is well ventilated, otherwise you might really see Smoke! Hope this helps those who are doing temp testing.
You can get the software from guru3d.com

Sounds good, I need something heavier than ATITool... my comp survives the artifact scan(which stresses GPU, CPU and chipset) but bluescreens under BF2142 unless I remove a 5.25" bay cover.
Umm, can't find it on G3D, link please? (http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_boxofsmoke_home.html?)

A simple "yes, that's the one" would have sufficed.
Referring to the demo by a name other than given by the maker was misleading so I had to make sure.
Update: works alright. Doesn't stress the CPU or chipset, but my GPU temperatures are 66'C already. That's +3'C over ATITool's two-hour test(an hour to let rise, then shutdown after another hour as temperatures were level).
Update2: doesn't work as a system stress test. Any CPU load drops the rendering effectiveness and GPU temperature.
Update3: graph leveled out at 69'C, so +6'C more than ATITool. Good GPU thermal stress test this one.

Real-time high-dynamic-range imaged-based-lighting, or RTHDRIBL .1.2.

Yup. After more testing the results are 69'C tops and stable for Smoke, 65'C tops but only peaks for RTHDRIBL. I removed light scene automation as it caused dips in GPU load. Also, Smoke does stress the GPU more than the others, but only the GPU. ATITool and RTHDRIBL give a better idea of total thermal stress.
Seems like one can't have CPU and GPU stress at maximum simultaneously with these tools.

not for me
I've seen my GPU temps as high as 81C with the front door closed, 76C with it open....this while playing games.
The smoke demo only gets it up to 71/74C respectively.

WIERD!
I just minimized the smoke window for about ten minutes and my temps shot up and began to level out around 80C (probably would have gone up to 81 had I left it a bit longer). But as soon as I brought the windows back up so I could see it, my temps immediately started to drop....can anybody explain this to me???

Rthdribl doesn't give me as high temps as Smoke does.Max Slowik wrote:Real-time high-dynamic-range imaged-based-lighting, or RTHDRIBL .1.2.
As many others, I used to do tests using rthdribl but as it turns out, smoke is a more pushing benchmark.
Haven't tested the difference yet, but the Human Head demo of NVidia is demanding as well, might be about the same (or a bit more) as Smoke.
I ran both Smoke (windowed as it seems to be standard) and Orthos at the same time, it works.Das_Saunamies wrote:Seems like one can't have CPU and GPU stress at maximum simultaneously with these tools.
Both GPU and CPU tested at same time, it's better then 3DMark I think...
