7600GS Passive AGP-ASUS, Gigabyte & Sparkle-suggestions?

They make noise, too.

7600GS Passive AGP-ASUS, Gigabyte & Sparkle-suggestions?

Post by trueg » Wed Sep 05, 2007 1:34 pm

I am about to purchase a better video card for my HTPC.....

Thermaltake Mozart
350W ATX PS (I changed the fan, so it's basically silent)
Asus P4P8X
Intel P4 2.6C w/Artic Cooling Super Silent 4 Ultra
1GB DDR400
NVideo FX5200 256MB (passive)
320GB Seagate

Other than the 3 noisy fans from the case (2x6cm & 1x8cm), all I can hear is the CPU Fan. Anyway, the best AGP passively cooled VGA card I can find is the 7600GS. I've determined that the only available models are made by Asus, Gigabyte and Sparkle

I don't want to have to change my power supply if I don't have to and a 7600GS would not require it. Anyway, does anyone know of any differences that should push me to one brand or the other. The ASUS model seems to have the best heatsink, but I've never seen them in person.

Can anyone recommend one over the other?

If you couldn't tell by the links, I am in Canada. I am looking for the best value, but price isn't really a concern.

I have the Gigabyte one, and it works very well, although I guess I have a little more airflow (120mm front and back, with the former probably sending some air over the card). After an hour or so of gaming it still didn't report more than 65C, which seems very low to me.
