Good and lower power usage Video Card

Post by elec999 » Fri Oct 19, 2007 4:01 am

I am looking for a godo video card with low power usage. I do not game at all. Just need one fast enough to run aero. I was looking at the Ati 2400, and 8600.
Thanks

Aero does not really give you anything. Do you really need it? You could go with what ever you currently have if you ditch aero. It'd be egological and your machine would be more snappy.

I like Aero and the Dreamscene. I was looking at a dirt cheap Asus using ATI Hd2400 and 256mb.
Thanks

Looks ok to me. They also make a fanless version of this card and the price is pretty good too.

For lower power consumption I recommend an entry level Nvidia 7 series as they consume about 10W compared to about 23W+ for the DX10 entry level cards. It’s been suggested that the HD 2400 Pro consumes less than 23W at idle but I haven’t seen any data confirming that yet.

Added: I just tested the Asus HD 2400 Pro and I was really impressed by the low power consumption, low cost, excellent build quality and strong feature set. I highly recommend it – see here.
