8800GT or 8800GTS (prices listed inside w/ options)

They make noise, too.

8800GT or 8800GTS (prices listed inside w/ options)

Post by mher6 » Sat Jan 05, 2008 7:51 pm

I have three choices...

evga 8800gt (regular speeds) + hr-03 gt for $305

OR

galaxy 8800gts (MIR, regular speeds) $300

OR

Leadtek 8800gts (MIR) $300 (I'm not sure how loud the stock fan is on the 8800gts...)

Thanks for any advice. ^_^

Um, I count three choices :P

If that's one of the G92-based 8800GTS 512MB cards, get that. Avoid the outdated 8800GTS 320MB/640MB, which are generally inferior to the 8800GT.

Yeah whoops, edited the post and forgot to fix that. Is Leadtek a trustworthy brand? I could also get an evga 8800gts (G92) for $320

If you have the money to spend, the G92 8800GTS is mildly faster than the 8800 GT. Its core speed, memory speed, stream processors, and shader clock are all ~8% higher/faster than the 8800GT 512MB.
You might want to check heatsink compatibilities for this one. Stock ain't going to be quiet.
The 8800GT with the HR-03 GT looks like the quietest you have listed. Honestly I don't think you are going to see much of a difference.

One easy method to check how much a company backs their products is by checking warranties. On graphics cards, EVGA offers a lifetime warranty and Leadtek offers 3 years.

How important is DX10.1 support? With the 9600 GT just around the corner, I might just wait.

Negligable. DX10.1 is mostly a step forward for the developing side and only a little for the user.

According to [H] Enthusiast, the 9600GT will be ranked below the (possibly apocryphal) 8800GS, which is itself ranked below the 8800GT.
