Gainward HD4850 Golden Sample

Post by rpsgc » Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:11 pm

Hello,

What can you tell me about this card's cooler? It looks similar to the one Gainward placed on its non-reference 8800GT card.

Dual heatpipes and a 80mm fan @ 1500rpm. Would it [the fan] be easily volt-modded? Maybe with a fanmate?

It looks good, is factory OC'ed and is better than the stock cooler. If I could just connect the fan to a fanmate and make it silent it would be win win :)

EDIT: Holy ....! The fan can be regulated through software! :D I'm officially in love with this card.

I have my eyes on it... Looks very interesting; it's a shame that it's not a full exhaust card.

BTW, I think that's a 60mm fan.

A large aluminum heatsink features a central fan that’s some 6.5cm in diameter

Meh... :/ As long as it's quiet.

Supposedly it runs at around 850 rpm in idle, but perhaps it could be lowered even more.

Default speed is 50% IIRC.

Yeps, that's the gainward card with different shroud and nicklepalted heatpipes...

I had this cooler on my 8800gt golden sample. It sounds like a leafblower at full rpm, but running the fan at it's lowest setting via software, I can't hear it at all, and have yet to see my video card go over 70 degrees Celcius.

This cooler really should be in the HD4870... the HD4870 version of this just fails, fails miserably

Hi, all. I just bought Gainward HD4850 -> http://www.gainward.com/product/product ... cts_id=179
It has the same kind of cover than gold sample but the heat sink is different. No heatpipes and its round shaped just like in many other hd4850 oem upgraded heat sinks. My problem is that the fan is spinning too fast = too loud. Temps are ok 44c. I can't change the fan speed by software like others. Or yes I can but my start % for speed is 6% so I can only drop speed 6% which means really nothing..well little bit. I can make it much louder 100% :D ..But that is not what i want :D. Any ideas, could some fanmate do the trick :?

Edit.

ps. Like u see the fan power cord is 2 pin and not 4 pin like in retail hd4850. And sorry about picture qualitys, they are taken with cel phone.

Well I took power off from the leafblower and set 12cm silent fan under the card. Temps rised 5c+ at idle and 10c+ at stress (48c/74c). That'll fix it for a while 8) ...sorry about posting off-topic

hello,

i had this card for a while now. lately the fan started making weird noises, which isn't good :D

my question is, does anyone know what aftermarket coolers(AC S1?) are compatible with this?

now, the card isn't based on the reference 4850 design, but i think the mounting holes are at the same place.

so anyway. Any advice?
