S1 installation on HD 4870

Post by Derek Baker » Thu Sep 18, 2008 2:15 pm

Do I need to adjust the base as per Step 2 of the installation of the cooler itself.

Which set of mounting holes: A or B?

Thanks.

EDIT: I see on Arctic's site that for the HD 3870 you only remove the stock GPU cooler leaving those on the RAM and VRMs. Is the 4870 the same?

I didn't adjust it. And it is easy to see which hoels to use, just put the cooler on and see which holes align with the holes ont he pcb.. It hsould be the same as for the 3870 though, whichever that was.

I left the stock VRM / Ram cooling plate thingie on the card. it cools the VRMs much better than those stick on thingies. You have to unscrew it from the rest of the coler, but that's no biggie and you can easily put it back together should you want to.

Thanks for the reply.

Was planning on keeping the pre-installed paste on the S1, but have now decided to ditch it so I can dry run without worrying about keeping it clean.

Would have already done the installation, except discovered didn't possess a screwdriver small enough for the screws around the core.
