Got the Twin Turbo on my 4870 1 gb :-)

Just installed the Twin Turbo on my 4870

This thing rocks! I have it set to 50% fan speed and its still dead silent I can't hear it at all. And best of all my temps are far better than I expected.

Idle : 44 Load: 62 That's lower then idle with the stock cooler

Best $40 I ever spent

and its also plugged into the card so its nice and neat...

I was wondering if the Accelerro S1 Revision 2 will fit this card. Do you know if the dimension are the same as the 512MB version? Mounting holes the same?

Yes the S1 works also but you have to mount a 120mm fan too it to cool it enough...

That's no problem. I planned on doing that with the 512MB version. But knowing it will fit the 1GB version makes me want to wait a little longer until the price drops a bit more.

How are the case temps now with it dumping heat out into the case rather than out the rear vent of the card? Sounds like a nice thing to get perhaps.

That's the great part, my case temps have stayed the same

CPU HD etc are all the same as when I had the stock cooler on it. But I also have a very well vented antec P180B case with good airflow so that helps. But for people that were thinking about getting a 4870 but thought they were too loud and didn't cool enough, well your problems are solved with the twin turbo it does everything it advertises to do,, I've very pleased with it...

Would you mind specifying which case fans are you using and at which rpm, in order to evacuate all that heat without affecting CPU temps?
Not related to the noise and heat of the 4870, but isn't it overkill (well, except in Crysis) for your LG 227WTG (1680x1050) monitor?
Which BTW is supposed to be silent, is it indeed? Thank you in advance for the answers.
PS: It is possible that at 1680x1050 you are mostly CPU limited and the 4870 isn't drawing it's maximum power.

, you didn't specify if your HIS 4870 is using the stock design, regarding PCB and VRMs.

The Turbo Module is good. The smaller profile compared to a 120mm fan doesn't block the PCI/PCI-E slot below the graphic card.

But one thing I think should be said about the Turbo Module is that it uses a standard 3 pin header which not all graphic card will accept. For example my Sapphire 4850 512MB uses a 4 pin header that is enclosed in a white plastic casing that is not compatible with the 3 pin header.

He's talking about the Twin Turbo BTW, not the Turbo Module

Exactly. It has a 3 pin and a 4 pin, so you can plug it into the card itself, be it a 4850 or 4870. As for overkill at 1680x1050, your probably right but I wanted to be set for a few years without having to upgrade again so this card gives me a little breathing room. And my HIS was using the stock heatsink. I'm using an intake and out take 120mm scythe sflex fan at 800 rpm's. I also have one on my thermalright 120 extreme cooling my cpu, so 3 total 120 mm 800 rpm fans all dead quiet. I don't have a top fan, but I put a book on top of the hole to cover it. And yes my LG LCD is quiet no problems their. I do have my CPU overclocked to 3.4 so its not that CPU limited. I'll throw up some pictures of my setup later in the week when I get those custom ramsinks...

Thank you for the answers! I am amazed that you can evacuate all that heat with one 800 rpm S-Flex.
I plan to use 800 rpm Slipstreams, but was worried about the resulting temps, apparently I shouldn't worry!
The 1GB version of the 4870 uses about 10W less power under load, according to the bit-tech review.
Also according to that review, one reason is that the memory is Hynix, nor Qimonda, but a better GPU bin isn't excluded.
I had a look at the back of the HIS 4870 1GB card pictured at Newegg, and saw that it still uses 3-phase GPU voltage regulation.
A 4th socket for GPU VRM is available on the stock PCB, but I don't know if any currently available 4870 makes use of it.

I'm not sure if it's the same PCB like in the bit-tech review (which I assumed is stock), the components definitely aren't the same.
So it's hard to tell how many phases are for the GPU and how many for the memory.
But the review says 4 phases, so I'll take their word. It doesn't seem to really help with the power draw though.

No its just 2 slots. Even at 75% the fan is quiet. At 50% its dead silent. 55%-75% is quiet also but their is a faint whirly sound, nothing bad still quiet and still better than stock.

Its the thermalright 120 extreme with a 120mm scythe sflex 800 rpm fan on it. And yes the fan on the gpu is controlled by the card

That sounds great. My S1 w/120mm Nexus blocks 4 slots (including the card itself), and I get about the same temps as you. It's probably not worth it to upgrade, but it's nice to know there are options if I need to free up some slots.

I count three slots, including the card itself.

One for the actual card, one for the heatsink (occupying the slot the OEM cooler occupied) and one for the fans.

Their made custom by a guy named Iandh you can get them at sidewindercomputers.com their $$$ but I like them. And I'll have to take my case out to count the slots, I'm sure it was only 2 but then again I am getting old and sometimes even the smallest detail I miss

Correction on the slots. It does take up about 2 1/2 slots not 2. I missed that. you could still put a card in that 3rd slot but they would probably touch.....

I've been digging around, but I can't find any decent looking custom RAM/VRM heatsinks for the 4850... I really wish they would, since the heatpipes on the S1 overlap the last memory chip.
