HIS 4670ISilence OR Sapphire 4670 Ultimate ?

Post by friend » Sun Mar 22, 2009 3:35 am

I am between the 2 4670 Passively Cooled Graphics Cards

The Sapphire has 512MB GDD3 while His has 1GB DD3

Which one do you recommend ?

Thanks in advance.

1GB is usually unncessary for Hd 4670 and Sapphire is more compact. But HIS has more heatpipes and bigger surface. Its really a matter of what you need. Do you want Native HDMI? Then Sapphire is the choice. Do you want Dual DVI? Then HIS is choice.

Or if there isn't any aprticalar preferences, size restriction by motherboard or case, just take the cheapest.

I really prefer a passively cooled one.

you don't even need this video card for 1080p mkv playback. just buy coreavc, depending on what your cpu is.

my spcr-approved silent3 system has the ddr4 hd4670 and it's inaudible with its large slow-spinning fan.

if your case does not have good airflow, you will waste lots of time and money with fans on it as it overheats.

best of luck.

512MB

But if you're only interested in 1080p HD and no gaming there are cheaper cards than the 4670. And like rei pointed out, new hardware is not always needed.

What is your processor?

A Radeon HD 4350 will do 1080P playback: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127391

1Gb in unnecessary for the vast, vast majority of video cards out there, let alone something low-mid range like the HD4670. And even on the super-fast cards, I think it only makes a difference at very high resolutions.

GDDR4 is nice because it is more power efficient and probably a little faster.

i have the sapphire 4670 ultimate. Temps are surprisingly good- Idles at 35C and loads at 58C after 30 mins 3dmark. nice relatively compact design and native hdmi a bonus.

Overall very happy.

You didn't mention your motherboard so it may depend on which will fit. The HIS card employs the Zalman passive cooler which has heat pipes that wrap around to the top of the card and it will interfere with the memory bank closest to the CPU on some popular motherboards. Make certain it will fit on yours. HIS should really have a compatibility chart on their site.

There's changes of that, which depends on location of memory banks. However there's pretty much clearance back side of the card. If µATX board has PCI-E 1x slot on place Above the PCI-E 16x slot, there's very good changes of card fitting. I installed VNF100-HP on my own HD 4670 and it has nicely clearance in µATX system I am emplying it.
