Hi, (btw, I can't post links yet!)
I'm upgrading my quiet computer and want to keep it quiet. I currently have a Antec P180 case (i.e. with its two large fans at the top and one at the bottom near the PSU), an AMD 3800 X2 and a passively cooled 7600 GT. My current system runs fine and I've never had any overheating problems. I have my fans all set to low.
I'm wanting to upgrade to a E5200 Intel chip and a passively cooled Gigabyte 9600 GT (google: gigabyte NX96T512HP). Does anyone have a similar setup? Do you have any problems with overheating?
This review says the 9600GT can approach 80 C but gives no information about the case and case fans used (google: hardwarezone NX96T512HP) I'm hoping I can run this card with all my fans on low. Is there anything I can do to check this?
Thanks.
Quiet case with a passively cooled Gigabyte 9600 GT card?

Maybe Asus 9600 GT Silent is better choice? Its thermals are very good according SPCR: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article821-page1.html Single Nexus fan was enough to keep Asus passive card cool enough.
My system specs:
AMD x2 4200 (65W) cooled with Xigmatek HDT-S963/Nexus Fan
ASUS M3N-HT Mobo
Passive Gigabyte 9600GT
Two 120mm Nexus fans (front & rear)
I'm controlling fans using Asus AISuite and checking temps with SpeedFan. The temperatures (Rear@750RPM, Front@900, CPU@1000) I get when idle are:
CPU: 34 *C
GPU: 45 *C
The system is silent with those settings and with my normal (daytime) ambient noise.
If the PC is stressed, I turn the fans up a little, say 200-300RPMs. They are not heard over the game sounds and the temps rise about 10*C on the CPU and 10-15*C on the GPU.
You probably have a better case (my is a no-name one), so the airflow should be even better. I have no idea about how your CPU might do, but the GPU is a definitely a good choice.
Hope my reply helps!

Re: Quiet case with a passively cooled Gigabyte 9600 GT card
You may spare a whoppy 30W on the card with a slightly less good performer such as a fanless ATI Radeon HD4650 (like the HIS iSilence4, but there's a plenty of choice).monstermunch wrote:I'm wanting to upgrade to a E5200 Intel chip and a passively cooled Gigabyte 9600 GT
By the way, in my experience with an Antec Solo, with only an exhaust Scythe Slipstream L fan, a 9600GT may run safe only while not playing hard 3D games (this is my experience): maybe a SS M would be a better choice to work it out, but I mean those two 120mm fan on your P180 surely will go far better.
