Radeon HD 4650, 1gb or 512mb?

They make noise, too.

Radeon HD 4650, 1gb or 512mb?

Post by RaptorZX3 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:42 am

ok i'm sure you heard this question often, but i want to know, is it a waste of money to buy a Radeon HD 4650 with 1gb? or should i go with 512mb?

it's to make a small and probably the last upgrade on my 2nd computer in my bedroom, it have a Radeon HD 3450 256mb right now

1Gb makes no sense for this card. 1Gb+ only makes sense for much faster cards that are running very high resolutions (e.g., 2560x1600).

so if i have the choice between a Radeon HD 4570 or Geforce 9500GT, both are 512mb GDDR3, which one should i take?

also is it possible to control fan speed on these cards? (maybe lower-priced cards don't have a fan speed control on them)

The Radeon is probably the best out of those two. I think it almost certain you will be able to control the fan speed using RivaTuner, with greater flexibilty than with the bundled software.

well finally i bought the 9500GT, it was lower-priced, mail-in rebate and the cooling seem to be good on it, Zalman-like heatsink-fan on it:
