New video card but want it quiet

Post by computergeek22 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:59 pm

OK guys so I have an old 7900gt which was once one of the best performance/value/cooling video cards. It has served me well. I recently got Modern Warfare 2 and wanted to get a video card upgrade.

However, I had a vf900 cooler on my 7900 gt so it was pretty much silent most of the time and I turned it up while playing video games.

I basically want to run the game on the highest settings at 1680 x 1050. I have an E4400. Don't want to break the bank with a 300 dollar video card but if you can give me options less than that that would be great.

Here are my current specs:

p180
Intel Core 2 duo E4400 o/ced to 2.4 ghz
Motherboard is a Gigabyte P35-DS3R.
I have 2 gigs of memory
Running windows xp
Don't plan to upgrade to windows 7 on this pc anytime soon. I have another laptop with it.

I've just been out of the whole gaming loop since sophmore year high school but now that I'm in college and have a job I'm getting back into it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I was thinking of getting the Radeon HD4850 because its compatible with the vf900.

You would want a 5750, I am guessing. a 4850 is a rip off at this point and uses 2x the power.

an old 4770 would probably be fine for you and they are cheap and cold running. I would ditch the old heatsink if that is holding you back
