general user experience with Club3D cards

Post by Freeco » Tue Dec 08, 2009 12:03 pm

A while ago I decided to upgrade my nVidia 7600GS to one of the cards in the ATi HD5000 series. The old card has hardware issues, locking up the complete system when using 3D apps.

I was still doubting between a passive HD5750, or to wait for the upcoming HD5670/50. The HD56xx shouldn't require an extra power cable, while all higher cards do need one.

But as the hardware issue with my 7600GS is getting worse (system now randomly locks up, even not in 3D and fresh reinstall) I'll have to act now and go for a HD5750.

Cutting a long story short :P There aren't much passive models available yet: one from PowerColor, and one from Club3D. Both are clocked the same, and both seem to have an identical heatsink. So just comparing specs won't go this or that way deciding between the 2 of them.

However, I've read PowerColor tends to produce "less-quality" cards. Power consumption that's higher than the reference cards, etc. Well, that's what I've read anyway.
So I tend to go for a Club3D, but what about that brand? Is it any good? I've only experience with Asus and MSI cards, but they don't have a passive HD5750 yet.

not a lot of Club3D card owners here apparently.
I've also don't this post on a dutch forum. General feedback: go for the Club3D.
Actually, Club3D would be a daughter of PowerColor, but makes no-nonsense cards
I'll do my order of the Club3D card tonight.

I have a Club3D HD3850. I've been using it for 14+ months, and the first thing I did with it was swapping the heatsink for an accelero s1. Zero problems.
