HD 5670 fan control question. Can it be done in software?

They make noise, too.

HD 5670 fan control question. Can it be done in software?

Post by jamsponge » Mon Feb 01, 2010 4:14 am

Hi,

I am currently using on-board graphics so decided to get a new HD 5670. I have seen on a video review of the HIS HD 5670 model and it has a fan control in software (it allows the fan to be controlled from 20% to 100% speed).

I am going to get a Sapphire model due to availability, and wondered if all 5670 cards can have their fan speed controlled?

What is the noise like anyway? Currently I have a Nexus Value 430 PSU, a Sythe Shuriken heatsink and a Samsung EcoGreen hard drive, so my system is really quiet overall.

If I add a HD 5670 (don't care about noise if I am playing games) will 20% fan speed produce quiet results when not playing games?

Thanks

I'm using the Saphire 5670 with VGA output and the default fan speed of 30 percent is good enough to handle Supreme Commander with everything at High. I can even run the Heavan Benchmark with everything at Max settings and not hear the fan speed up at all (full screem mode) so I'd say off hand the cooling works quite well on the cards.

The fan controller is integrated on the GPU of all the 5xxx cards, so yes software control will work.
