Fastest sub-75W videocard to date

Post by quest_for_silence » Sat Apr 17, 2010 8:17 am

Hi all!

Is still the 9800GT eco/green/low power the fastest no 6-pin PCI Express supplemental connector videocard currently available?

No new kid in town yet?

Luca

5750 go green is the fastest gaming card that is fanless and as a bonus it does not need an extra power connector.

Beware that all the other 5750 cards do have the 6 pin power connector.

Thanks for the hint: unfortunately that G!G is such an arabian phoenix all over Europe (and expecially here in Italy), at least right now (while even in USA it seems not so widespread).

No shit ! What a surprise ?
Have you considered that stores and their employees do speak ENGLISH ? And my point was that if we have it in Sweden the rest of Europe has it too hence the card is not "an arabian phoenix all over Europe"

What's your problem, insulting people who tries to help you?:?:

Neither do I know italian, nor do I have a bad attitude with people who tries to help me, but I'm able to do a proper Google search and find a store in Italy.
Yes, they're out of stock, but the language didn't stop me.

If you don't feel like getting advice here then don't ask, use google. You're claiming that they're next to impossible to find in Europe, but you're completely wrong.
You simply haven't looked hard enough. In stock in Sweden, Germany and Austria.

Keep looking!

Mats: Don't even bother, instead of admitting that he can't even master something as simple as google he is going for personal insults. That alone tells me everything I need to know about him and his kind.

We are just better then that

Not quite correct to say so, silly boy.

More properly I've answered to "out of the blue" offending phrases (not to mention your silly off topic, or the use of unpolite words such "shit" it is).

So, please, do a favor to your gentle thread owner (me): make my day, go away.

Probably only the venerable GTS250 may be suitable (the HD5770 is a 100watt or so): but I'm not aware of any of those cards with no external power connector, and I'm not sure it can outperform the Go! Green HD5750.

Regards,
Luca

P.S.: the Go Green may give some issues (see here).

Not correct indeed - it was not a personal insult but rather an insult against all swedish people. That just isn't proper. I'd recommend to stay above any counter insults - by staying professional even when insulted you would earn the respect and sympathy of other forum members.

May I kindly educate you in some forum etiquette: Posts aren't supposed to be signed like email and additionally there isn't any thread ownership here.

I guess his original point was clear - to prove availability in at least part of Europe.

Which indeed is a bit off topic ("stricto sensu" it is a fact: the question is "which card is fastest", and where it's available doesn't answer to it), ill mannered (without reason), it doesn't help anyone (who doesn't speak swedish) to find such a card, and moreover it's still not proven at all.

And whether it should been proven, the availability in maybe 5 stores (which don't use english as language, while use krones as currency) for about 9 million of swedish people, over about 730 million of europeans (which use euros, dollars and pounds), doesn't contraddict that it's still a vanishing product (You know, TSMC has lots of problem to supply 40nm GPU, and PowerColor (TUL) doesn't help at all to spread all over its "Green flavour").

On the contrary Mats has been very kind to supply a link to a shopping comparator (in german), but even that information were wrong, as the same shopping comparator (but in english) states that PowerColor card is out of stock (at least in Austria and Germany, I still don't know if even in Sweden).

Obviously, even if provoked, definitely I have been rude referring to the whole swedish people: I beg their pardon (but equally obviously not to one, namely Redzo, who still does not - or will not - get a clue, a phrase that's true and it's not an insult: simply a statement of fact).

Now, please lm, let's stay on topic, won't you?

Up to now, the venerable 9800GT EE is still a very safe bet (even if sub-optimal, for newer games).

There`s also the hd5670 which should be fairly easy to find. Now, the 9800gt is normally faster, but don`t forget that the "green" versions are underclocked. So, I`m not sure which of the two is faster, but they should be pretty close. On the other hand the 5670 does have lower power consumption overall.

And by far, I mean.

You may be totally right: and maybe these charts translated from the german site ComputerBase could help a bit to foresee something helpful

HD5670 vs 9800GT

9800GT vs 9800GT Eco

Odd, I just checked several sites and this is what I see for clock speeds

Code: Select all

GPU stock Green
5750 700 700
5670 775 775
5570 650 650
5450 650 650
No difference on any of them. Maybe you are just used to factory overclocked cards?

I'm sure he's referring (only) to the 9800GT (the various Eco/Energy Efficient/Green/Hybrid/Low Power/Synergy/Whateverelse ones).

Nice to see those comparatives.

Just as a marginal note, the placement of the 9800GT in the class of >75W videocards (2nd link) betray the circumstance that they are not taking into account the green version of it.

It doesn't make any difference, the regular 9800GT is ooold, runs hot and is way behind the regular 5750.
The 5750 is 30 % faster, while the 9800GT uses 56 % more power, Comparing the green versions won't change that fact.
The regular 5750 stays at 75 W even under 3D06, that's impressive. In fact, the 9800GT is closer to the 5670 in performance, but uses twice as much power.

Mats wrote:It doesn't make any difference

It makes a difference because, as dhanson865 pointed out, almost every HD5750 card do have the 6 pin power connector (which eventually is the subject of the present thread, You know).

There's only one without it, that "infamous" Go! Green, but it isn't readily available (I know, I know, in Sweden it could be available). Please take note that since January people on SPCR are looking for what I named a sort of an arabian phoenix.

If You let me say so, it makes another difference the price tag: currently an XFX 9800GT EE sells here for 84 euros, while the PowerColor HD5750 Go! Green is listed here but not in stock (as You already know, at www.compuline.it) for 158 euros. Not to mention the at least >40 euros to have it shipped here from Sweden, if in case.

Said so, it's a no brain that the HD5750 is a way better than any 9800GT, not to mention this latter is inherently flawed (and dhanson865 knows the famous querelle between Nvidia and The Inquirer about the G92 chip).

Now, with our greek silencer ntavlas, we are wondering if even the "75 euros-less-powerful-but-available-HD5670" could be better in this sub 75W videocard space.

Regards,
Luca

Why is that important. It could mean that the card is just putting additional stress on the motherboard. Shouldn't the only thing that counts be how many watts it uses, now how it is wired to get those watts?
