It really isn't very loud. (If you let auto fan do its thing)

I can't hear it over the stock 1200RPM 120mm double bearing fan that came with my Lancool PC-K58W. (Which gives a slight hum)

It idles at 40% fan speed and loads at 40% fan speed. (Strange, but true)
Temperatures are reasonable. At a 23c ambient, I get ~40c idle and low 80's during load. My card's VID is 0.975v.

The card experiences an exponential increase in noise once you go past 60% fan speed, with 100% fan speed being unbelievably loud.

Without a sound meter, my opinion really is quite subjective; but I feel that Fermi's noise and temperature "problem" is a bit exaggerated. (Unless you get a bad VID of course.)

put a real load on it, and see what the fan sounds like at 100%

A heavy load (eg. Folding) on auto fan will make it spin up, correct.

However, if the fan is set at 60%, temperatures remain within safe limits while keeping a (subjectively) tolerable acoustic profile.
I get 60c with an ambient of 22c. (So there is actually room to lower fan speeds even more if desired)

Gaming (eg. Crysis) does not heat up the core enough for it to spin up.

I was speaking about the "out-of-the-box" characteristics of my GTX465 though.

You're using the lowest-end GF100 video card, no wonder it isn't as hot as the GTX 480 reviewers are complaining.

Numerous reviews state the power consumption is the same as the GTX470. Same power consumption = same heat output (Unless the energy is being converted to some other form such as sound)

Don't consider those reviewers who take into account the whole system power consumption, Techpowerup is the only site (aside from spcr, but reviews here are mostly focused on low power cards) that measures direct power consumption of video cards, and has to be taken as THE reference: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zota ... 65/27.html
The 465 uses up to 33 watts less at load if compared to a 470, both stock-clocked. That's a 15% difference.
