They make noise, too.

Sad to hear that U2410 are buzzing to, was one of my candidates due to U2711 being silent. Looks like I am gonna have to go for the U2711 to, but is way out of my budget at the moment.

I found this thread too late. Received by U2410 last week and it has the same whining hum that everybody has mentioned.

I searched the Dell techical support forum and found a thread where a number of users had complained about the noise. The response from Dell was that this was common to all U2410 monitors and can only be eliminated by setting the monitor at full brightness (retina burning brightness). Otherwise, they recommend setting the monitor to 25% brightness and 25% contrast to get rid of the noise. This response was from 2009, so I guess it has been an issue for a long time.

25% brightness is a sweet spot. The noise is reduced here (but not eliminated). It gets worse again if you go lower or higher, but it is still too loud for me. Can't see how anyone can put up with this monitor, particularly since most LCD monitors are totally silent. I am in the process of returning mine, so now I am looking for a replacement.

I got a U2211H a while ago and had to get a replacement since the first one had the annoying buzzing issue. Thankfully the second one's buzzing issue is essentially gone. I say essentially because I can hear it a bit for the second or so that it stays on after the computer has turned off, but thankfully it's covered up by the case fans now.

Finally obtained a full refund from Dell after going through 2 Dell U2410 monitors, both with exactly the same noise problem.

Can anyone recommend a truly quiet 24" 1920 x 1080 TN monitor?

I would pay millions for a truly silent 24" 1920x1200 monitor with a good panel (gaming + viewing angles + colour gamut)
My 24" TN Samsung is my noisiest component!

Just sitting in front of a U2410 Rev A01...
Too bad I also found this thread too late :?
Just for the record and later readers:
Issues are alongside the already mentioned bee/mosquito buzzing in the fan: the greenish left side and pinkish right side of the panel...
Maybe those people without buzzing fans already stop hearing in the high audio spectrum, I don't know...

A bad monitor for evening workers with otherwise quiet environment, like I am!
I start overhearing it due to the monotone buzzing, but when I come close to the monitor and catch the bee/mosquito-sound again, I continue listening to Bee.FM all night long...

I might return it for a U2311H as well, in case that one's truly more quiet! But that one has issues of its own, I reckon...

I have a Samsung BX2450 and the monitor is definitely silent and the external PSU brick is not audible in my case ( if you actually have your ear at ~5cm from it you can clearly hear it "buzz"; at 10-15cm from it I can't hear anything ).

I have the U2311H and it makes an annoying noice at any other Brightness than 100. I've been running it at 100 Brightness and 60 Contrast to keep it silent, but I guess I am not getting the best possible picture.

Just want to post my experience (which has been positive).

I actually had 4 U2410: An A01, 2 x A02, and a A04. One of the A02s had bad capacitors and died on me, but none had the buzzing issue (at 50% brightness).

For noise reference, I can hear my S-Flex 120mm (which I didn't find as good as they cracked up to be) in my P180 (original) when it ramps up to around 950rpm.

It's nothing special just a Acer 1916W with a silver bezel (they made a black and a silver version, the black was analog only, the silver added DVI). I bought it several years ago and back then it was one of the cheapest 19" widescreen LCDs made. 1440x900 unlike the newer 1366x768 they're trying to push on 19" displays.

I've been looking forward to getting a 24-28" widescreen and I hope I won't notice any buzz from changing the brightness.
My PC has continued to get quieter (less fans, different CPU HS, quieter HD). I'm now using a AL2223W 22" LCD and don't hear any buzzing from the monitor no matter what brightness I set it to. For another thread I tested it at 0, 33, 42, 50, and 100% brightness. I'm sure I've played with other percentages for short periods but I've left it in the 33 to 50 range for days and weeks even at the quietest part of the night I haven't heard a buzz out of it.

I haven't bought one but my short wishlist for a 24-28" LCD to upgrade to is:

Asus VK278Q 27" 45W (interesting that the 27" uses less power than the 25" but costs more)
Asus VE258Q 25" 55W
Asus VE248Q 24" 35W (best cost of ownership due to lower initial cost and lower power draw)

If my monitor died today and I had to make a quick purchase I'd just grab the 24" VE248Q and enjoy the reduced power consumption.

If I hit the lottery I'd buy something more expensive but the odds are against it.

The NEC 2490/2 is silent. I had the original 2690 before and that had an annoying hum. The 2490 is broadly sRGB too (which I much prefer to a wide colour gamut display).
