Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
Oh, that is interesting. I had the 960 one and it was pretty good. I remember it running around 1100rpm and 70c at full load.
Looked nice with the backplate and fit in my U2, as well.

That's the reason I'm interested, too. Very capable little cooler there but it's interesting to see how ~25% higher W/mm2 affects the cooling performance.
Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
Ah, that's funny! Nice build! I'm also using Slipstreams.
Did you have any trouble fitting it in? I actually had to remove the fan shroud to get it in into the PCIe slot. Luckily, it just clips on with two tabs on each end. Otherwise I would have been screwed.
Also, I forgot that Lawrence reviewed this Asus 960: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1439-page4.html
14dba at 75c in Furmark is great but yeah, I wonder how the smaller die would effect cooling.

Are you using NVMe drives btw? Can't see any 2,5" drives.keif wrote:Did you have any trouble fitting it in? I actually had to remove the fan shroud to get it in into the PCIe slot. Luckily, it just clips on with two tabs on each end. Otherwise I would have been screwed.
My case only has one detachable support beam in the front panel, so after taking it off, no trouble whatsoever.
Now that you mentioned the shroud is easily detachable, I might consider removing it and adding one fan to the bottom. Should give nice amount of fresh intake air
Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
Yeah, there's an m.2 slot on the back but it only supports Sata III and Sata Express.Smanci wrote:Are you using NVMe drives btw? Ah, I have the Rosewill version which has the support beam riveted.
I've thought about cutting a hole in the bottom and mounting a 140mm fan but I just haven't had the balls to do it.

The Guru 3D review states:quest_for_silence wrote: MSI GTX 1060 GAMING OC 6GB(9.5" length, xx" height, dual slot (xx"), 6-pin PEG. 1 DP, 1 HDMI, 1 Dual-link DVI). Not passive under low load.
Techpowerup (wrong dimensions in review)
Guru3D
"MSI however throws in a cooler that manages roughly 300 Watt cooling performance. It is a fairly good one, so good that up-to a degree or 60 on the GPU, this card remains passive and thus inaudible. Once the fans kick in, you can expect to hover at the 65~70 Degrees C marker, with seriously demanding games."
This review is obviously incorrect as this card is not passive at idle/low loads?
Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
Techpowerup says the card isn't passive at idle. I came across another site (videocardz.com) that says it idles at ~1500rpm. Guru3D might have had a copy/paste error from one of their many other GTX reviews. (shrugs)
Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
Makes it a little difficult to make a purchasing decision based on technical reviews that are incorrect...
Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
It's worth mentioning that MSI does NOT equip the GTX-1060 Gaming with double-ball fan bearings as they do its higher-tier counterparts...

MSI claims it's idle under 60C. Seems to be confirmed by some customer reviews I skimmed.

Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
I've got a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 Windforce 2X OC, a model that doesn't seem to have any professional reviews. (It's less factory overclocked than its reviewed siblings from Gigabyte.)
So here's my personal impressions review of it, running at stock settings:
Performance: I suppose it's in line with the other cards using the same GPU and RAM.
Noise: Can't tell. I haven't heard anything from this card since I installed it. If there's any noise it's being drowned out by the 1800rpm Gentle Typhoon I use for the air intake (*), which is barely audible.
(*) My computer use a P183 case with extra dust filters, so the airflow is restricted, hence the need for a Gentle Typhoon.
The reduced airflow leads to higher internal temps which should have a negative impact on the noise.

I suppose you don't usually drive it at 1800rpm, do you?
Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread
While I do have my case fans connected through some oldish fan controller this intake fan has been set to full speed (meaning somewhere between 11V and 12V feed) for the last two years or so.
