That's a 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 prototype that I just won in an auction. (nVidia...who bought 3dfx....auctioned it off for charity.) I believe there were approximately 50 or so actually made for development purposes, though the board never actually made it into production.
It has 4 VSA-100 chips (the same chips used in the Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 boards), and a total memory bus width of 512 bits. It was suppossed to come with it own external power supply "brick". I bought it for collector reasons....

The auction just ended this past Sunday, so I don't have it yet. I'll let you you when I get it....though I'm not expecting the Voodoo Volts power pack to come with it, so I'm not sure if I can even try to (immediately) get it working....Ralf Hutter wrote:I thought that was probably you bidding on that. I think I PMed you about it.
Did you already get it?
Have you installed it?

Don't do anything to quiet that card down. It is a rare collectors item, so it is best left as it is.
It you want to use it do in it's stock form.
If you want good graphic performance buy a new card.
Just the length of the card will screw up the airflow and cooling of the entire box. But what a great looking card...now you need a huge window in your chassi.

That is a fantastic card - shame its performance is a little lacklustre now (no hardware T&L engine) but as a collectors piece, the v5-6 is unparalleled. (well, unless you can find a rampage board)
I agree too, dont touch it- especially if you have a pukka CoA .... I take it you have the latest 3rd party drivers? And have visited the x-3dfx forums for help?

Pop in, theres still plenty of voodoo people there.

I guess rummaging around in the dumpsters behind 3dfx's offices paid off for this fellow. All I found in the trash bins were empty Everquest boxes and some porn... 3dfx engineers had way too much time on their hands, apparently.Ralf Hutter wrote:The same guy just sold a working version with the power supply for $1525!!!

The guy claims to be an Invidia employee who's selling these things and donating the money to charity. It's kind of odd that a supposed employee would lay highly valuable vidcards on a carpeted floor and a bedspread to take pictures of them. Apparently he doesn't know about or care about ESD!SometimesWarrior wrote:I guess rummaging around in the dumpsters behind 3dfx's offices paid off for this fellow.Ralf Hutter wrote:The same guy just sold a working version with the power supply for $1525!!!
I walk around on a (crappy) carpet at work all day and I've never fried a component throguh ESD.... I'm a tad bit more cautious at home where the carpet might tend to produce more static electricity. That, and I've gotten a static shock at home a few times but never at work.Ralf Hutter wrote:The guy claims to be an Invidia employee who's selling these things and donating the money to charity. Yeah...I know...I was just kidding. I bought it precisely for "collectors item" purposes. I've alays been a bit of a "3dfx fan", and I only wish I didn't sell my old Monster 3D, (Voodoo1) or Canopus Pure3D II (Voodoo2.)silvervarg wrote:Don't do anything to quiet that card down. I also had one of the very first Voodoo Rush boards (the one that had a RISER / daughter card). But like most others, I returned it because it had performance issues with Quake. (Did not deliver Vodooo Graphics performance.)
Man...I really wish I had kept that Voodoo Rush...
I did have to add some specific power connectors to allow me to rig the board up for 12V power. The board was made with this modification in mind, so it was very simple. (I'll put up some pics in the next couple days.)It you want to use it do in it's stock form.

This card will NOT fit any any case where there are drive cages all the way to the bottom of the case. Good thing my "old and loud" case isn't like this...so it fits in there!
FYI, I was indeed able to get the card rigged for power, and installed with 3dfx drivers under win 98. Unfortunatley, going into ANY 3D mode I've tried so far, (D3D, Glide, or OpenGL) results in almost instant lock-up or reboot. I did however, get to see it render a Quake2 demo for about 15 seconds once.
I may try and find an overclocking util, and underclock the card a bit, and see if that helps with stability.

I almost forgot about this thread....
Now that I have my new PC assembled, I'm able to use my "old" PC to play with the Voodoo. It works great in Win98 with a Dell Precision 410 motherboard, though it won't install under XP. This was an absolute (ok, maybe relative) "steal" for the $650 I paid for it.
They also delivered the "certificate of authenticity" to me...a nice 8x10 3dfx graphic signed by Gary Tarolli.
If you think some silent PC enthusiasts are "nuts"....look at this:

Now...I gotta change out that whiny hard drive in that Voodoo box....
