SN21G5 - Thoughts?

Post by acaurora » Thu Apr 13, 2006 10:19 pm

I am currently in between deciding to build a HTPC Desktop Case using a NSK2400 or building a HTPC SFF with a SN21G5. However, not seeing a review for either here on SPCR (no doubt i"m sure Mike is working on a review for both ;) ), anyone here have any suggestions/thoughts/experiences with either - more specifically ont eh SN21G5?

Don't have any personal experience, but there is a review at SFFTech. The main cooling fan looks similar to the SD11G5 so probably warrants replacement if you need a very quiet system, plus the tiny PSU fans don't look easy to silence either (but you could always put in a DC/DC psu).

The SN21G5 is pretty quiet. The main ICE unit has the same specs as the one in the SN95G5v3 and the SD11G5. There is no NB/SB fan, which leaves the powersupply fan which can be swaped for a 60mm ADA fan if required.

Can a Nexus 92mm replace the stock 92mm fan on the ICE cooler? I remember reading that the stock fan uses a 4 pin connector o.o...

Yes you can swap the ICE fan for a nexus but you lose Bios/software control of the fan speed (4pin vs 3pin). This is not a huge loss since my system never goes higher than 900rpm with the stock fan. Let alone the 12v nexus.

Can anyone describe the character of the psu fan noise and exhaust fan noise?

Is it benign in nature and will it tend to blend in with ambient noise levels?

Also, how significantly do you think the fans would spin up if I installed an eVGA (passively cooled) 7600GS video card (vs. stock integrated video)?

Bump for this thread. I am checking this thread all the freaking way from Japan... and definately think this needs some more input, especially considering the length of time that this thread has been going on.

Greetings

i have the SN95G5 which looks like it has the same body just different mobo and i can say it is not quiet enough for me. the psu fan is very annoying and i would assume you plan on having it next to you too.

plus you will have alot of harddrive noise too. there is no room to do anythign about that.

i wouldnt recommend if you want really quiet.
